The 1720 Sportsboat Class got started when a small group of Irish yachtsmen, led by Clayton Love and Stephen Hyde, felt there was a need for a new boat that would be cheap, up-to-date and suitable for club racing in Cork Harbour. Tony Castro designed what was then called the Cork 1720, but their popularity has subsequently spread beyond Southern Ireland, with fleets thriving in the Solent and elsewhere.
This Exceptional example, even with a carbon rig, this boat has been IRC optimised such that the standard 1720 gives her 64 seconds an hour. The Carbon rig and all standing rigging is new (2022) The Running rigging is less than three years old. Whilst the Mainsail ,light Jib and heavy Jib are 2021 and lightly used (old Club main used apart from Cowes week). A new carbon rudder was fitted 2021. She also has a new 2022 Seldon aluminium mast.
This boat has been on the Cowes week podium eight times in eight years she is well maintained, dry sailed and ready to go racing.
