Construction

Hull Construction:

  • Composite construction with end grain balsa core providing strength, thermal insulation and acoustic insulation.
  • Layer of Kevlar adding to the hull strength.
  • Non-pigmented gel is used below the waterline to help prevent osmosis.
  • Vinylester resins are used throughout for added strength and osmosis prevention.
  • 3 x Layers of epoxy as a barrier against moisture ingress.

  • Two water tight bulkheads providing sealed buoyancy.

Machinery

Engine & Gearboxes:

  • 1 x Yanmar 4LHA-HTP 160hp diesel engine with gearbox ratio of 2.68:1.
  • The fuel system is further protected by means of a twin-duty/standby robust & significantly oversize Racor fuel purifier/filter assembly (mounted in the engine space). This can protect against possible fuel contamination at any time. Added in 2018 and does a great job.
  • A 12VDC regulated 85 amps alternator feeds the engine 12V start battery.
  • An additional 24VDC regulated 110 amps alternator feeds the 24V house batteries.

 

Maintenance & Performance:

  • Engine hours approx. 2665 @ July 2023.
  • Last serviced carried out at 2,635 hours (Just 30 hours since last service).

 

Propulsion & Steering:

  • Gori 3 blade folding propeller.

  • Generator house approx. 3,082 hours @ July 2023.
  • Last service carried out at 3,050 hours (Just 32 hours since last service).
  • When new, this suffered repetitive premature seawater impeller failure. It took the manufacturer a few years to sort the problem. Each time this happened impeller parts inconveniently migrated into the heat exchanger (from which it was necessary to remove them). To overcome this happening, an in-line stainless-steel strainer was fitted. Entirely satisfactory and proven trouble-free.

 

Solar Power:

  • 2 x 20W semi-flexible solar panels on CabTop feed twin-output controller to independently charge 12V engine & generator start batteries.
  • 6 x 50W semi-flexible solar panels on CabTop feed 30amps MPPT regulator/controller to charge 24V house batteries. Display controller at Nav Station.
  • 2 x 300W solar panels on aft stainless framework feed 40 amps MPPT regulator/controller to charge 24V house batteries. Display controller at Nav'Station.

Plumbing Systems

Fresh Water & Water Heating System:

  • Saltwater system fitted.
  • Surejust 8ltr accumulator fitted.
  • Eberspacher heating system. This is a hot-water system. The hot water passes through conveniently positioned heat exchangers having individual zone temperature control.

 

Watermaker:

  • 230V Sea Fresh Watermaker.
  • Originally supplied as model H206A having a permeate drinking water capacity of just over 100 litres per hour. More recently this was overhauled and upgraded to achieve up to approx 140 litres per hour.

 

Bilge Pumps:

Communication & Weather:

  • ICOM IC-801E HF SSB 24VDC transceiver fitted at Nav'Station for long-range DSC and communications. Insulators fitted to aft-stay for the antenna.
  • Pactor Modem for offshore HF email by Sailmail (Marine spectrum) or Webmail (Amateur spectrum).
  • Pactor modem wired to the HF Radio and has been the owners preferred choice for obtaining weather forecasts when offshore and for sending/receiving emails. Entirely successful and used throughout our ocean passages as well when mobile service provider communications are not in-range.
  • McMurdo ICS Nav6 Navtex display at Nav'Station.
  • Icom IC-M505 VHF DSC radio for short-range communications. Plus remote handset providing comprehensive use at steering position, fitted on helmsman's pedestal.
  • Transas Class B - A.I.S. : send and receive via mast-mounted dedicated antenna.

Domestic Equipment

Galley:

  • FORCE 10 – Gourmet Galley Range gimbaled stove
  • Four burners, grill & temperature controlled oven. Supplied from TWO 6kg LPG bottles in gas locker. Gas detection system with automatic cut-off safety solenoid valve device.
  • 230V 800W Panasonic microwave.
  • 230V ice-maker stowed in the cabinet below the microwave. There is a 230V 13 amps socket to enable the ice-maker to be used in-situ.
  • Refrigerator - This was originally a single independent refrigeration systems, using a keel-cooler condenser for maximum efficiency when afloat.
  • A second air-cooled, entirely independent, refrigeration condenser unit & evaporator plate heat exchanger has been added. This can be used to support the original-installed refrigeration unit or can be used independently if wanting to. e.g. When lifted-out and on the hard in a shipyard (when the factory-fitted keel-cooler system cannot be used). Also, having two independent refrigeration systems provides added resilience.
  • Freezer - two independent refrigeration systems, both using a keel-cooler condenser for maximum efficiency when afloat.
  • Siemens 230V D12.52 Washer/Dryer.
  • Intention to hand-over with a full inventory of kitchen wear, cooking pots, pans, pressure-cooker, induction hob, implements, ice-maker, crockery, cutlery, bedding linen, towels, glasses, coffee maker, mugs etc. However, anything new owners do not wish to keep can be disposed of.

 

Heads/Showers:

  • Tecma 24VDC Electric Head (aft).
  • Tecma 24VDC Electric head (forward).

 

Heating & Ventilation:

  • A single large-capacity 230V heat-pump can provide the saloon and adjoining inside spaces with either air-conditioning for cooling, or heat source for space heating, or can be used to reduce humidity.
  • A second 230V heat-pump is dedicated to the owners aft cabin and adjoining en-suite.
  • In addition, 24VDC low-noise FANS upgraded to white Sirrocco. These have choice of three capacity fan speeds as well preset time control. Total Seven. Comprising: 2 in aft cabin, 2 in galley, 1 in Saloon (at Nav-Station), 1 in Pullman and 1 in Fwd cabin.

  • Starboard side unit behind chairs incorporates chart stowage.
  • Locker door to chart table unit forward outboard side for extra storage. Shelf placed at conduit level.
  • Locker unit added starboard side forward of chairs, with lift up lid. Incorporates access panel to chain plate locker.
