TRADE NAMES: Samanguila, African mahogany

DESCRIPTION:

Light colored wood whose density is 490-530 kg/m3. The color of this wood is yellowish creamy white in the sapwood and in the heartwood it is pale pink or pale red, darkening to dark brown with a golden sheen. The grain is usually straight and the grain is medium.

HULL CONSTRUCTION:

Horizontal wood 10 cm wide by 17 mm thick. Built in Bilbao (Spain) by the Udondo shipyards and launched in Barcelona in 1953.

This ship, along with the Miranda IV, were the first two ships with the rudder separated from the keel, which gave them greater maneuverability.
