Cornish Crabbers 24 MKV

Starting at
£69.950 GBP

The compromise between looks and headroom have been the biggest struggle for the 20 to 30 foot market. With a spacious cockpit and relatively low coach roof line we think the Crabber 24 is a real looker! But what about headroom?

On deck

When sailing the headroom is not so important but when safely moored up it is nice to stand comfortably in the saloon, galley and heads. On the new Crabber 24 MkV we have designed a coach roof inspired by the Camper vans we see all over Cornwall. A ‘Pop Top’ saloon companionway has been incorporated to increase the headroom by 14 inches when not at sea. What a great solution with a magical application that just works like it should.

Below decks

With a design brief including a well appointed cockpit space the interior of a 24 footer needs to be well thought out. Engine location and lifting keel design will define the space available and we think we have cracked it. A U – shaped seating arrangement in the saloon gives great space for four adults to sit and enjoy supper or breakfast. A flip up forward seat back creates extra space for single saloon berths and a generous double v berth. The open plan arrangement leaves space for a separate heads compartment and a neat galley. An option to swap a cockpit locker for an aft quarter berth is also available for those looking for 5 berths.

Hull form

Long keel sea keeping qualities with fine keel manoeuvrability. A 2200kg displacement will provide stability whilst encouraging easy tacking and close quarter confidence not associated with Classic long keeled yachts. Above the waterline she is a stylish head turner, but below the water she is a lesson in modern design from the drawing board of Andrew Wolstenholme.

Cornish crabbers 24 history

The Mk1 Cornish Crabber 24 was probably the most iconic of the Crabber range from the early 80’s. Built from plywood and eventually converted to full GRP construction she offered a great family cruising experience with a simple interior layout and good sized cockpit.

In the early 90’s the Crabber 24 Mk 3 changed tack dramatically with a move to a deeper fixed draft and long keel characteristics. Whilst the various versions of this type were lovely yachts in their own rights we feel that the original lift keel / shallow draft Crabber ethos has been lost at this size in the range. This new boat will bring the Crabber 24 up to date whilst retaining the traditional charm of the original.
