It is a rare opportunity to acquire a Cookson 50 in impeccable condition. This ocean racing yacht stands as an icon in its category, with a design that has left its mark on the world's most prestigious trophies, a legacy that is bound to endure. This Cookson 50 has undergone an extensive two-year program of maintenance and upgrades. She features an exellent wardrobe, an upgraded canting angle, and bulletproof hydraulics. In 2023, the yacht underwent a comprehensive refit, touching every aspect of its structure. From a complete repaint to the installation of new electrical systems, electronics, hydraulic systems, engine, and more.   Design Specification:Designed by Farr Yacht Design, the Cookson 50 is a production boat made by Cookson yard. In respect to standard boat the interior has been modified to allow a better sailing handling by cutting away the original kitchen positioned in the center of the boat and replaced by a smaller one on the side. In addition, two hatches closure have been built to separate the lazarette from the living area for safety reason in case of failure of the rudder.

Specifications

General

Hull, Deck & Superstructure Construction:

  • Hull and deck are made in carbon fibre and foam sandwich, under vacuum with epoxy
    resin.
  • Laminated in female mould.
  • Side decks repainted in 2019

Keel, Rudder & Canard:

  • The canting keel is made in high strength steel covered by a composite shell.
  • The structure of the keel is original.
  • The keel was replaced in 2022 with a deeper +50 cm.
  • The Bulb has been lightened about 300 kg; now the boat is lighter (-300kg) and more straightening (+ 5%)
  • A new Titanium Keel hydraulic ram has been replaced in 2017 and is now able to cant the keel 40° per side. From the original 32° per side.
  • The rudder, and rudder stock are in carbon fibre, original.
  • Rudder bearings have been checked in 2017, all gasket replaced.
  • Carbon fiber Canard in front of the mast, original, able to be lifted and pivoting ±3° when in full down position
  • Predisposition for emergency steering system: two CNC machined aluminum bracket installed on transom and a composite box. The canard shall be removed from forward location and installed on the aft box.

Rigging

  • Bowsprit fitted in 2016, completely in carbon fiber, with a unidirectional carbon bobstay and titanium pig nose. Extended 25cm. 2019.
  • High modulus carbon two spreader mast produced by Hall Spar in 2014.
  • Internal mast jack with pump
  • Lateral shrouds in EC6 – 2018.
  • D1 & Forestay Solid carbon Hall Spar 2014.
  • Adjustable forestay with Cariboni hydraulic ram, fitted in 2017.
  • Runners in PBO, Gottifredi 2018.
  • Forestay Strop Gottifredi 2022.
  • Lock on Topmast halyard #1 & #2.
  • Lock on jib staysail halyard 2019.
  • All ropes are dyneema DSK 78 & DSK99 continuously maintained and replaced.


Hydraulics:

New hydraulic system made by Cariboni fully refitted in 2017.

All sails are in carbon fibre except Trysail and Storm Jib.

  • Forward pulpit in titanium design to allow an easy passage of spinnaker tack.
  • Aft pulpit and stanchions in composite.
  • Aft gate in titanium with composite support for antennas.

Winches:

  • N°2 Winch Harken on coachroof for halyard, drum changed in 2017.
  • N°2 Winch Harken 65.3 (2017) racing, carbon top, with hydraulic motor 2017.
  • N°2 Winch Harken 55.2 for mainsail original.
  • N°2 Winch Harken 55.2 for runners original.

Cockpit:

  • 2022 non-slip coating of the deckhouse and cockpit decking in EVA
  • Race Sprayhood
  • Removable dodger, for rough weather conditions.
  • New watertight Cariboni custom keyboard on pedestal 2017.
