About this Jørn Utzon One Off boat

English

Tritail - one off, 35 feet, sail type Bermuda Rig, LWL 10. The world famous Danish architect Jørn Utzon designed and constructed this special boat in 1970, where the front half looks like a normal sailboat.

From the middle of the boat and aft, the displacement splits in two, so the boat ends up with a catamaran design aft. After a development with large models (7) and a test in the Hydrodynamic laboratory, the hull was manufactured in seawater-resistant aluminum at Alboats in Helsingør. The idea with this design, which must be seen against the background of the boat shapes that were available at the time, was to give the boat a more elongated shape, greater stability and thus greater speed through the water. In contrast to pure catamarans, which cannot be turned over once the litter sails, this unique boat has some of the characteristics of a catamaran, while at the same time handling itself like a "normal" keelboat.

The boat, which the Utzon family has named "Tritail", has been in the family's possession for 50 years, with many lovely sailing trips behind it in Danish and Swedish waters. The boat is easily sailed. Jørn Utzon's son, Jan Utzon, who is selling the boat, has sailed the boat alone back and forth between Helsingør/Sydfyn and Strømstad in Sweden for many years.

The boat has been maintained at a shipyard for the past 10 years. The boat has a mainsail, furling jib, windlass and, if a new owner wants to fit the old forestay, a large genoa and a storm jib. Self-inflicted game. VHF radio, depth gauge, a Garmin chart plotter can be included in the trade.

The father, Jørn Utzon's wish was a bigger boat for the family (after a Soling), and with usual thoroughness and the desire to investigate new hull forms, he constructed this boat. His background was his upbringing with the spike gate specialist and father Aage Utzon.

Under deck, the boat's layout is very simple, but it has worked well for the Utzon family.

The wide stern provides good working space on the deck around the cockpit.

Whoever acquires this boat gets a smooth-sailing, solid and unique vessel that is the only one of its kind in the world.
