A sailing schooner is a sailing vessel with two or more masts, the foremost of which is usually the tallest. Sail schooners typically have two or more headsails, meaning they can be sailed efficiently close-hauled. The triangular knee-of-mutton sail, a schooner's primary sails, is set on the foremost mast and is usually the largest of its sails. The angled layout of the headsail gives it more power at the bow, allowing the sailing schooner to sail upwind. Some sail schooners are also equipped with one or more jibs and even a spinnaker. Not only do sail schooners look spectacular, they are also a very efficient means of transportation, making them popular for use in commercial fishing, yachting, and racing.
