A sail gaff is a type of spar (pole) used to support the head of a fore-and-aft sail. It is most commonly used on sailing vessels and is similar in style to a lugsail's yard. The sail gaff is held in place by the gaff jaws, which are hoisted up to the mast. The gaff is positioned so that the sail has the correct angle of attack in relation to the wind.
