A multihull catamaran is a boat consisting of multiple hulls connected by an outrigger or a bridge structure. Typically, these boats are made up of two attached hulls; often, the two hulls are of different sizes, providing a wider range of stability for the boat. The presence of two hulls results in a greater surface area — which, in turn, increases the catamaran’s speed and manoeuvrability. Catamarans are perfect as power and sailing boats since the two hulls provide extra stability for passengers and cargo when sailing, and their large surface area allows for a smooth glide over waves. Catamarans can be used for recreational and commercial purposes and are often used in shallow coastal waters.
