When I first began searching for a lift-keel boat, I honestly didn’t expect to find something quite like Southern Comfort. She has far exceeded anything I had imagined. I’d always dreamed of navigating the French Canals—taking a break from the open sea to slow down and soak in the wine regions and those tucked-away corners of French culture that you just can’t reach from the coast.
Southern Comfort was the perfect companion for that journey. The raised-saloon layout made the interior feel open and airy—so much natural light filled the space below, it never felt like I was tucked away below decks. Cruising through the canals, she moved so effortlessly. During 2023 the French canals saw some climate-related depth loss so the lift keel was an saviour where we met with shallower waters than had been charted.
