Percy Mitchell 26 (1967) for sale in Isle of Wight, United Kingdom

Summary

Immerse yourself in maritime heritage with this beautifully restored 1967 Percy Mitchell 26, hailing from the isles of the United Kingdom. This craft boasts a lineage of Cornish boat building expertise that spans over a century and three generations. Brought to life at a family-run yard renowned for launching an array of vessels, this small cabin cruiser echoes a distinct Cornish design. Its straight stem, transom stern with essential tumblehome and sweet sheer are immediately recognisable and rooted in local fishing boat aesthetics. Fully restored 'Greenwaters' offers a roomy, deep cockpit, ideal for fishing or family outings, and cosy accommodation suitable for a weekend getaway for two. Designed with a long straight keel, raked stem and transom, it features a break in the midship deck for increased headroom in the two-berth cabin. The carvel planked hull in yellow pine, fastened to closely spaced steam bent oak timbers with copper nails, ensures sturdiness. Powered by a 2018 Beta Marine engine, the boat can deliver a maximum speed of 8 knots, with an economic cruising speed of 6 knots. A helm under the cockpit roof invites you to take control at the teak wheel steering, while a separate galley and bar area provide onboard comfort. Complete with beaching legs, a cock-pit cover, depth and speed indicators, and a life buoy for safety, this charming sea vessel is ready to embark on new adventures.

About this Percy Mitchell 26

English

Over the past century and over 3 generations this well-known family of Cornish boat builders has designed and built a wide variety of craft from fishing boats to 60’ yachts, all of which have been launched over the sea wall outside the yard in their unique fashion, all described in a rare and now collectable book, a Boat Builder’s Story.

Small cabin cruisers like this one were very popular with their immediately recognisable lines so typically Cornish. The straight stem, transom stern with that small but essential tumblehome and the sweet sheer. Seaworthy little ships developed from the local fishing boat design.

The large, deep, cockpit gives ample space for the family or fishing party and at the same time giving week-end cruising accommodation for a couple.
