About this Mainship 430

English

The Mainship 430 Trawler has taken a classic design and improved it through innovative engineering and modern manufacturing methods. Since its inception 20 years ago, Mainship has produced thousands of boats - mostly in the trawler family. The focus has been, and continues to be, in building high-quality, low maintenance diesel cruisers that are comfortable and affordable.

The 430 Trawler has a fully instrumented lower helm that allows operation during inclement weather, and is equipped with full washers and wipers. (The lower helm pilot seat was repositioned to the flybridge next to the upper helm chair so the admiral has a good place to observe the action and passing scenary).

From the expansive flybridge, captains have a full unobstructed view to all points. Both overhead and console space have been dedicated to electronic needs. Aft of the standard radar mast are molded steps with diamond non-skid leading to the aft deck which is large enough to store a tender. Sturdy aluminum rails offer excellent handholds, and the cockpit is lowered for safer and easier entry to the full-size swim platform that includes a convenient swim ladder, and freshwater shower.

Heading to the integrated pulpit is safe for all with the wide decks and high bulwarks of the 430. The split anchor well will handle plenty of rode and an extra Danforth, and includes a washdown. Fore and aft shorepower outlets allow for choice of docking. The port and starboard cabin doors make shorthanding a snap as well.

Counter space is usually at a premium on a boat of this size, but the galley on the 430 Trawler is a chef's paradise with plenty of Corian-covered counters, an oversize sink, a three-burner range, a microwave - convection oven, a refrigerator, and loads of storage. All this is on the same level as the salon and has its own deck access door.

Accommodations

Owners and guests will appreciate the Mainship’s expansive layout which includes the aft owner’s stateroom, a forward stateroom, a full saloon and galley and two enclosed head compartments.

The layout features both flybridge and lower helm stations, a large saloon (thanks in part to the boat’s 15-foot 6-inch beam) with room for a full settee, a dining table for four (not included), and a countertop bar with two stools. The owner’s stateroom aft is laid out with a queen walkaround berth placed athwartships and a private head compartment with separate stall shower. The forward stateroom is similarly equipped, with a centerline queen berth and its own head compartment. A private entry connects a small aft deck with the owner’s stateroom. This is a popular feature for cruisers and a great place for morning coffee.

The galley-down amidships has a three-burner stove, a full-size oven, and a large double-door refrigerator, along with a stainless-steel sink, a microwave and plenty of counter and stowage space.

There’s passenger seating for as many as eight on the flying bridge, laid out with a centerline helm, and more room on the quarter deck, over the aft stateroom.

Deck & Hull

The deck and hull are in excellent condition. The bottom was inspected and repainted in 2021. The deck and cabin were buffed & waxed in July, 2022 and the boat looks great.

The bimini was destroyed in the recent windstorm. The frame is still usable and ready for new canvas. It's estimated that flybridge enclosure panels could be installed at approximately $600 per side.

There is a full flybridge canvas storage cover that appears to be in excellent condition. There are also newer color-coordinated window cover panels for the front and the sides of the lower helm windshield.

There is a 9' Walker Bay tender included, suspended from the integrated stainless steel davits.

Electrical Systems

The owner replaced batteries recently with two 8Ds for engine start & the house bank and a Group 27 for Genset start. One of the alternators was recently replaced.

The Kohler 8kw generator has 1092 hours and starts and runs great.

The Pro-Nautic 12-50P battery charger is newer.

All electrical systems reportedly operate great.

Mechanical Systems

With the 440 hp Yanmar diesels, the 430 tops out around 22 knots. The owner always cruises at 8 kts and likes the 1 gph affordability, as well as the reliability of the famously rugged Yanmar engines.

The engines have approximately 1600 hours total run-time. The starboard engine was rebuilt at 800 hrs.

The Kohler 8kw generator has less than 1100 hours and it starts & runs great.

A hydraulic system powers the trim tabs, steering and the engine controls. Anchor windlass is electric.

Brokers' Comments

The Mainship 430 - a so-called “fast trawler” was built from 1999 to 2006 and was hugely popular for its twin diesels, two helm stations, and spacious layouts with a warm, contemporary feel.

Ed McKnew, in his PowerBoat Guide, calls the Mainship 430 an “affordably priced aft-cabin cruiser with very spacious accommodations and a good turn of speed.”

The two sleeping cabins are at opposite ends of the boat and both have double / queen sized beds and private baths. There are many comfortable social areas, including a lovely salon.

The boat has recently been fully detailed, inside & out. The engines & genset were all serviced last year, and the bottom paint was renewed then also. Other than some older electronics and damaged cabin sole just inside of the starboard helm station side deck door, the boat is in excellent condition and ready to cruise the Bahamas or the Great Loop. It would make a beautiful and spacious live-aboard.
