History of Halmatic Boats

Halmatic is one of the UK's most prominent boat manufacturers, with a history that's as rich as it is illustrious. Founded in 1952 by three naval architects - Hamish Hamilton, John MacLachlan and David Aisher - the company initially specialised in the production of high-quality glass reinforced plastic (GRP) hulls. Over the years, the range of Halmatic products steadily grew to include vessels of varying sizes and designs, each devised with painstaking care and precision.

Located in Havant, Hampshire, Halmatic quickly garnered a reputation for producing robust, reliable boats that were capable of meeting the challenges of both the seas and the commercial boat market. In fact, their vessels quickly became favourites among various professional users, including the military, commercial operators and police forces. In 1985, Halmatic was acquired by Vosper Thornycroft (now known as BAE Systems Surface Ships), providing a notable boost to the company's production and growth potential.

Currently, Halmatic operates out of Portsmouth, and is a part of the larger BAE Systems portfolio. This affords Halmatic the resources, support, and reach of a global defence, aerospace and security company, all while maintaining its distinctive pedigree and reputation for excellence - a trait that continues to attract a diverse clientele from across the globe. Its commitment to producing high-performance small boats and rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) remains stronger than ever, ensuring Halmatic's place in the annals of British maritime history.
