Marketing Description

The Hanse 460 is without a doubt one of the best examples of modern yacht design. Even the traditionalist will have to reluctantly admit that progress has undoubtedly been made.
The concept behind this yacht was to provide a level of luxurious comfort whilst maintaining ease of use in a yacht on which you could spend extended periods afloat whilst eating up the miles.
‘Oculus Storm’ delivers this in spades from her powerful Yanmar inboard, twin headsails and in mast furling rig. She is the shoal draft version with a 3.68 ton, 1.75M draft keel. Twin helms with carbon fibre wheels and more importantly engine controls at each helm. A cockpit which offers security at sea and a decadent lounging space at anchor.
Below decks is the preferred 3-cabin version with two heads. Linear galley with twin fridges and gas oven. Very comfortable lounge area with inbuilt TV.

Mechanical

When new the vessel is offered with either a 57hp or 80hp option. Thankfully the present owner opted for the larger, more powerful Yanmar 4JH80 inboard diesel fitted with a saildrive unit with 3-bladed folding propeller. This 4-cylinder, common rail direct injection workhorse will provide between 6-8 knots easily.
Access is superb either via the gas strut aided companionway steps or via the removable panels in the rear cabins. The engine can be operated at either helm which is a huge bonus when operating single handed or with an inexperienced crew. Engine has completed 225 serviced hours with most recent service in March 2025.
Further manoeuvrability is provided by the bow and stern thrusters. These are the retractable models which drop in and out of the hull. This feature will both delight and amaze and gives added confidence when berthing in tight or unfamiliar locations. Being retractable, minimises on drag and prevents any unnecessary fouling to the propellers. Similarly to the engine controls, these can be operated from both helm positions.

  • Retractable bow and stern thrusters with dedicated batteries
  • Engine controls at each helm
  • 3-Blade folding propeller

Electrical

12/240V systems on board with Lithium Ion upgrade that provided a bank of single 90Ah engine start and 6x105Ah domestic bank. The batteries are recharged via the 35Amp engine alternator or the onboard smart charger via shore power.
12/240V panel within a cupboard above chart table with digital selector switches. Masterbvolt digital monitor at chart table showing battery capacity and charging status. 240V sockets in each cabin, galley and saloon. Touch pad lighting controls in owners forward cabin and saloon. 12V sockets. Wireless phone charger on port helm is a handy extra. Boat is also fitted with a 3000W inverter which provides 230V from domestic bank and increases battery charging speed from shore power.

  • 3000W Combimaster inverter
  • Touch screen lighting controls in saloon and owners suite
  • LED Deckhead lighting
  • Soft low level mood lighting in all cabins and saloon
  • Courtesy lighting in cockpit, companionway and saloon

Rigging

In the sail plan you can clearly see the influence from the designers. Berret-Racopeau have been responsible for the design and subsequent sailing qualities of Beneteau, Wauquiez and Fontaine Pagot. This sail plan is all about performance and provides a sailing experience that will keep you coming back for more. Selden, anodised aluminium deck stepped twin spreader rig with stainless steel standing rigging. The position of the shrouds are outboard allowing unhindered access forward.
‘Oculus Storm’ has twin furling fore sail options of which the outer option is electrically powered. This allows for either a self-tacking, 105% jib or a 145% genoa to be used, or both, depending on conditions. The 105% jib is excellent in light airs and the heavier 145% will eat up the miles down wind. The sails are vertically battened which aids in maintaining sail shape and trim.
Electrically operated in-mast furling mainsail. All lines are led aft to the helm via a series of turning blocks. The lines are hidden by protective channels keeping the deck free from obstructions. Lewmar winch pack including 2x Lewmar 50 electrically powered self-tailers and 2x Lewmar 40 manual self-tailing winches.

  • Quantum AC5 Tri-Radial fully vertically battened mainsail

Accommodation

Below decks is beautifully appointed and in my opinion her present owner who had the boat built has chosen wisely from the interior fabric and wood choices offered. The fabrics are a neutral grey with durable edging which are the areas that can take a hammering. The interior woodwork is warm teak which only enhances the feeling of quality, and the finishing touch is the traditional classic teak and holly strip floorboards.
This is the three cabin version with has two spacious double cabins aft and an owners en-suite cabin in bow complete with ensuite heads with separate shower and an island berth.
This is a two head boat and the day heads can be accessed from the port aft cabin giving an en-suite feel to the occupant.
Access is via a lockable, drop-down wash board system and traditional sliding hatch. No more looking for somewhere to store the washboards as they cleverly lower into their own slot. Extremely wide companionway with gently sloping wooden steps. Stainless steel grab rails port and starboard finished in dark brown leather add a touch of class and luxury.
The afore mentioned, twin double cabins are situated aft. Each has a hull mounted port light which due the angle of the chine, let is lots of reflected light when in the marina or at anchor. For air and additional light, there are opening deck hatches and opening ports to the cockpit.
The berths are fitted with marine mattresses which are very comfortable indeed. Each cabin has a full sized hanging space and cupboard storage. 12V deck head and reading lights.

Returning to the saloon and on the starboard side is a workshop/utility/storeroom. This area has its own door and has full standing headroom. Within here are numerous cupboards ideal for storing equipment and tools.
Forward of this is the chart table with large chart reading area, padded chart seat with storage below and 12/240V switch panels.
Next in line is the L-shaped linear galley. The work tops are in cream easy clean 'Mineral Stone' with a raised edge to prevent spillages from reaching the floor. Top lading fridge currently used as a drinks chiller with front access. This prevents cold air from being unnecessarily lost. There is an additional drawer fridge ideal for storing perishables. Eno gas fuelled oven with 3-burner hob. This is fitted with a protective top to match the work top. Moulded sink with hot and cold pressurised water. Lots and lots of storage with tow head height front opening cupboards, below counter storage cupboards including bin recess, cutlery storage and glass ware.
Opposite the galley is the saloon seating/dining/relaxation area. The table extends and can sit eight adults in comfort. The table will also drop down and convert to a large double bed or a relaxing day bed. There is a 32” flat screen television that raises and lowers from the central island settee.
Aft of the portside saloon seating is the day heads. This has a Jabsco, electric freshwater flush toilet, moulded sink unit with storage below and mirrored vanity unit above. Separate shower stall with Perspex closing and shower sump pump out. Opening port for light and ventilation. 12V deck head lighting. Holding tank.
In the bow is the spacious owners cabin with island berth. This has a pocket sprung mattress for additional comfort. Plentiful storage including hanging wardrobes and additional hull mounted storage cupboards port and starboard of the bed. There is a very handy and comfortable dressing seat. Ensuite heads with separate shower stall and an electric, freshwater flush toilet with holding tank.
Panoramic angled windows in hull reflect natural light into the cabin. Additional opening deck hatches above the berth. 12V lighting throughout including whit and red for night vision. 12V sockets with USB points.

Construction

GRP constructed sailing vessel with twin helms and shoal draft fin keel. Hull topsides finished in grey gelcoat with contrasting white water line striping. Wide transom with electrically operated bathing platform with removeable bathing ladder, retractable dinghy davits and Passarelle.
The decks and cockpit are finished in durable ‘Flexiteek’. All deck hatches are flush mounted minimising hazards when moving around the decks.
Moulded bowsprit with incorporated double anchor rollers and spinnaker tack point. Flush anchor locker with offset Quick vertical windlass with chain counter, operated at helm or in situ. Moving aft is a large sail locker with steps.
Stainless steel pulpit rails conjoined with stainless steel stanchions and double set of guard wires. Midship opening gates for easy access when moored alongside.
Cockpit is literally enormous and has two steering pods aft. These are fitted with sporty, black composite steering wheels and electronic navigation aids.
When at anchor or in harbour the cockpit transforms itself into a very companionable and useable space. For the sun worshiper, the starboard seating area converts to a huge sunpad by dropping the electrically operated table. The port side table is fixed but has extending leaves so alfresco dining can be had without disturbing the sunbathers. This area is further protect either by a Bimini top when too hot or for us Northern lot a full cockpit enclosure to keep out the rain and wind. Either way the choice is yours and many a happy hour will be spent here.
Underwater areas were antifouled in March 2025 with sacrificial anodes replaced at the same time.
