Now for a proper seagoing craft. The Talisman 49 hull is near-legendary – designed in Oban by the superb Murray Cormack Associates – and it takes an extraordinary amount of weather in its stride. TALISMAN OF WIGHT has been hugely cherished, substantially upgraded, and refitted with powerful Detroit 71Ti V8 diesels, Furuno TZT screens, heating, thruster, Tek-Deks, generator, and a six-berth layout. A true all-terrain floating vehicle!

Construction

RCD Status: Our understanding is that the yacht is exempt from the essential safety requirements of the Recreational Craft Directive as she was built and placed into use within the EU prior to 1998.

 

Hull Construction:
  • Massive initial GRP lay-up using hull design bred from pedigree commercial launches and patrol vessels.
  • GRP hull moulded by Aquafibre in 1983, with subsequent fit out by AH Moody & Sons.
  • Weight Gross/Registered 40.14/27.3 tons.

 

Deck Construction:
  • Tek deck Teak design decking for ease of maintenance and long-term integrity.
  • Tek deck bedded onto new 18mm plywood sub deck.
  • Teak bathing platform full width.
  • New teak rubbing strake the full circumference of the vessel correctly plugged and shaped.

 

Superstructure Construction:
  • Aluminium with white gloss finish.
Machinery
Engine & Gearboxes:
  • 2 x Detroit Diesel 8VW 71TI V8 Twin Turbo units (7082-7300 and 7082-3300) producing max. 460 hp each (689kw).
  • Engine hours: 3783 / 2778 at September 2025.
  • Allison M15L & Allison M15R reduction gearboxes.
  • Engine room temperature sensor.
  • Extensive Halyard sound insulation.
  • 2 x portholes with emergency blanking board re MCA Category 2 compliance to engine room.

 

Maintenance & Performance:
  • Engines, generator and gearboxes recently serviced.
  • New injectors to starboard engine Sept 25.
  • Maximum speed 18 knots.
  • Cruising speed 12 knots.
  • Economic cruise @ 8 knots (c.35lph with combined engine and generator burn).

Electrical Systems
Voltage Systems:
  • 24V ships battery system.
  • Twin USB charger outlets throughout.
  • 240V sockets throughout.
  • Electrical distribution panel lit.

 

Battery Banks:
  • Two banks of 2 x 12V batteries for port & starboard with interlock. Buffalo Bull EFB sealed batteries (Jan 2019).
  • Additional 2 x 250A/hr 12V batteries located under port side aft cabin floor paralleled up STBD bank re capacity (2020).
  • 2 x 250A/hr Buffalo Bull Batteries beneath floor to aft cabin, wired in parallel with starboard bank doubling capacity.

 

Battery Chargers:
  • C-Tek smart battery charger fitted to generator battery.
  • Victron Phoenix inverter 24V/3000VA off the starboard battery bank.
  • 24V 60A Victron charger wired into the starboard battery banks (July 2020).

 

Alternators:
  • Fitted to each engine.

 

Generator:
  • G&M Marine Dieselite series MDL 8 kva generator, with extensive ring main.
  • Engine hours: 1960 at September 2025.

 

Shore Power:
  • Fitted.
Plumbing Systems
  • Salt water and fresh water systems piped to forward chain locker.
  • Hot and cold water piped to both heads, aft transom shower and galley.

 

Fresh Water & Water Heating System:
  • Webasto Pro 90 diesel powered hot water heater system piped to all cabins plus a towel rail in each heads. This system also heats the calorifier, engine pre-heats and screen demist
  • Pressurised fresh water pump system and pressure vessel.
  • Calorifier - dual coil hot water storage cylinder heated by 240V immersion or engine waste heat.

 

Bilge Pumps:
  • Whale gusher manual bilge pump on aft deck, piped to all sections + salt water intake as fire pump, MCA compliant.
  • 3 x Bilge pumps with feedback to helm.
  • 2 x Independent bilge pumps to aft cabin, with separate transom outlets.
Tankage
  • Port & starboard tank fillers for water and diesel.

 

Fuel:
  • Twin stainless steel fuel tanks with total capacity 3,800 litres.
 
Fresh Water:
  • 1590 litres total capacity (350 Imp. Gallons) in 2 tanks, a fibreglass unit forward and stainless steel unit aft.
