I am offering a privately owned Alubat Ovni 43, built in 1994, for sale. Most recently, I sailed her between Corsica and Sardinia. Before that, I brought her from the Caribbean via the Azores to the Mediterranean. As our young family has just grown, we will unfortunately not have enough time for sailing holidays in the coming years – and anyone who knows this boat knows: an Ovni is meant to be sailed…
Defiant is equipped for bluewater cruising. In the past four years, she has crossed the Atlantic twice. We did not always have good weather, but she is strong and tough. The standing rigging is from 2021. The Diesel engine is a Yanmar 4JH2E with 50hp, it was completely overhauled in 2020; since then, it has run 3,000 engine hours. The engine has been very well maintained and runs like new. The sail wardrobe consists of a mainsail and genoa plus a small staysail. All sails are available in duplicate, and a storm jib is also on board. One set of sails is of thick Dacron make (for high resistance against UV and salt). One mainsail is brand new and has never been used.
All through-hulls and valves (Truedesign) were replaced in 2023 and 2025. The deck hatches are watertight.
The propeller is a three-blade MaxProp and has been serviced annually.
The hull is in condition appropriate for its age. On deck, there are age-related corrosion spots, mainly under fittings, where the paint is flaking. The underwater hull shows no signs of corrosion. Anodes and antifouling are renewed annually (most recently 04/25).
The rudder bearings were renewed in 2022 and show no play.
The yacht has a solar array (approx. 220W) and an AeroGen6 wind generator; together they produce more than enough electricity per day to power the boat and charge various devices. The engine alternator has an intelligent charging system (Sterling AB 12130) for the batteries. Main batteries (2x110 Ah AGM, new in 2025) and the starter battery (1x 100 Ah, new in 2024) are separated.
Interior: There are berths for 7 people in 3 cabins (1 forward, 2 aft), and 2 heads, both with manual toilets and showers. U-shaped galley (excellent support in heavy weather) with 2-burner gas stove and large powerful refrigerator. Large, comfortable seating area. The interior features light real-wood (elm) paneling in good condition.
Electrical systems: Raymarine Navigation systems (Log, depth sounder, wind sensor with fine 0–60° resolution), Navicom RT-650 VHF radio, iCom MA500-TR AIS (transmitter and receiver) with Wi-Fi for display on iPad, Furuno radar, FusionLink stereo system inside and outside, external GPS-antenna for satellite phone connection. Raymarine Cockpit plotter, NMEA2000 compatible. Garmin electro-hydraulic autopilot (hydraulic ram new in 2025). Also Webasto diesel heater, electric heater (shore power), electric anchor windlass (1000W), and hot-water boiler (shore power or engine-heated). The yacht is not insulated.
Miscellaneous / Extras:
The cockpit is protected by an aluminum hard dodger with plexiglass windows (see photos).
The mast has full-length mast steps up to the masthead.
Running backstays for additional mast support when sailing under staysail/storm jib in heavy winds.
A large number of spare parts and electrical components on board, including a complete second set of autopilot components, plus a vast assortment of tools.
Defiant has been equipped by both her previous owner and myself for long-distance, independent cruising, and she is immediately ready to set off again.
Further details and fotos on request. Viewings and sea trials can be arranged by appointment. The boat is currently berthed in Genoa, Italy.
