Westerly Centaur for Sale in Kent
This 1977 Westerly Centaur is a fine example of one of the UK’s most popular and enduring family cruising yachts. Designed by Laurent Giles, the Centaur’s reputation for solid build quality, reliability, and sea-kindly handling has made it a favourite among sailors for decades. Ideal for coastal cruising, estuary sailing, or exploring rivers and creeks, she offers excellent value for anyone seeking an affordable and dependable cruiser.
This particular example has been owned by the current owner for the past year and has had five previous owners. She features the classic bilge keel configuration, allowing her to take the ground safely and making her perfect for exploring tidal waters around the Kent coastline and beyond. She has just been brought ashore for the winter at Swale Marina, Kent.
On deck, she is equipped with stainless steel stanchions and pulpit, a GRP toe rail, and all the essential deck fittings for secure and comfortable sailing. Her straightforward rig and robust fittings make her an easy yacht to handle short-handed or by a small crew.
Below deck, the Westerly Centaur offers a simple yet practical layout with ample space for family cruising. Accommodation :
This Westerly Centaur offers comfortable accommodation for five people spread across two cabins with 6ft headroom.
The forepeak features a V-berth with convenient under-berth storage and infill, which converts it into a double berth. The forepeak also benefits from shelf storage to both sides of the berth.
Moving aft, there is a separate Head's compartment equipped with a marine toilet and a wash basin supplied with pressurised pumped hot and cold water. Water is heated by a calorifier and a 240v immersion heater.
Continuing towards the stern, the saloon offers a central table, accompanied by a booth seating area on the port side, offering convenient under-seat and shelf storage behind. The port settee easily transforms into a single berth. Leading from the booth area is a quarter berth located at the stern of the saloon.
Opposite the booth seating area to the starboard side is the galley featuring a gimbaled 2-burner gas hob with oven and grill, cool box, and a single stainless-steel sink supplied with pressurised hot and cold water, and ample storage space.
Behind the galley area is a single settee with under-berth storage and cupboard storage above; this area also includes another quarter berth.
Additionally, this Westerly Centaur comes equipped with a saloon-mounted CD player/radio.
Ascending the companionway leads to the aft cockpit, complete with bench seating comfortably accommodating five people and offering generous storage within a deep locker to the stern The cockpit includes a compass, depth gauge, speed log, cockpit shower with pressurised hot and cold water, engine controls, and tiller with a Skeg rudder.

Constructed by Westerly Yachts in 1977 according to Laurent Giles' design. Featuring a White GRP hull with GRP toe rail, self-draining cockpit, and white GRP decks with by non-slip surfaces. Its stability is ensured by bilge keels, with tiller steering and spade rudder.
This Westerly Centaur 26 benefits from a 2017 Beta 20 diesel engine, with? hrs maintained by the current owner, this vessel was last ashore in May 2024 for antifouling. The owner is selling due to moving away from sailing.

Mechanical Systems:
The Westerly Centaur is equipped with a 2017, 20hp Beta diesel engine, powering a shaft driven three bladed fixed propellers. This engine is supplied by a 37 Litre fuel tank and is operated via Morse controls. This Westerly Centaur should expect a cruising speed of approximately 4 knots, with a maximum speed of approximately 6 knots. The current engine hours are unknown. This Beta 20 Engine was last serviced in November 2024 with an oil change, new oil and diesel filters.
Electrical Systems:
This Westerly Centaur is equipped with two 12-volt batteries, (1 x Engine + 1 x Domestic) These batteries charge directly from the engine alternator. This Westerly Centaur also benefits from a 240-volt ring main throughout the vessel, and an 240V immersion heater.
