A sailing ship brig is a two-masted brigantine sailing vessel. It is smaller than a fully rigged ship and larger than a sloop. It has two square-rigged masts and has a large deck area compared to its size. A brig has a gaff sail and a mainsail which are usually supplemented with one or two additional fore-and-aft sails. It is manoeuvrable and strong and is often used for lighter winds. They are particularly suited for short trips and small cargoes.
