A sailing hydrofoil is a boat that rises out of the water at high speeds, reducing water resistance when used in a sailing race. The boat sports a series of foils or wings beneath the hull that lift the boat above the water's surface. This makes the boat lighter, shifting most of its weight onto the wings and dramatically reducing drag, allowing it to sail much faster than it would typically with conventional sails. Its protection from wave-making also makes it a much smoother and faster ride than conventional sailing boats.
Manufacturers that produce hydrofoil sail boats include Infiniti.
