2003 Telstar 28 “Mingulay” Trimaran for Sale
“Mingulay” is a rare 2003 Telstar 28 trimaran that blends performance, innovation, and cruising comfort. Built in the USA and later imported to Europe, she is believed to be the only Telstar 28 of her kind on the continent. Designed by Tony Smith and crafted by Performance Cruising Inc., this model is known for its smart folding amas. With the amas deployed she spans 18 feet; folded, her beam narrows to 8.5 feet, making trailering and tight-berth mooring simple.
This Telstar 28 trimaran received a thoughtful range of upgrades. A new Raymarine navigation suite enhances confidence underway. A screecher and asymmetric spinnaker deliver power and versatility across shifting conditions. Her 20 hp Tohatsu outboard with electric start and tilt provides smooth and efficient propulsion. Recently replaced mast and rigging, along with a new centreboard, further strengthen handling and reliability.
Modern cruising systems elevate life aboard. An electric head, lithium battery setup, 120W solar panel, inverter, and built-in water tank support extended time on the water. Inside, a modified double berth and saloon table create a comfortable retreat after a day of sailing.
With only one foot of draft when the centreboard is raised, “Mingulay” excels in shallow bays and coastal estuaries. The mast can be stepped single-handed with a simple one-rope system, which adds freedom for solo sailors. Coppercoat antifouling reduces maintenance and protects the hull for years ahead. Trailerable, capable, and carefully upgraded, this Telstar 28 trimaran is ready for new adventures.
A unique, well-appointed trimaran, “Mingulay” invites her next owner to explore with confidence and ease.
