The Tamar 2000 Odyssey, a classic motor boat built in 1985, is currently for sale in Ipswich, Suffolk, UK. With an overall length of 7.62 metres and a beam of 2.73 metres, Odyssey has been admired as an attractive and practical "weekender" for estuary and inshore coastal cruising. Constructed with a robust GRP layup typical of the 1980s, this vessel has a rich history, having been meticulously maintained by a series of five owners. A 2023 pre-purchase survey affirmed her structural soundness and satisfactory condition, following a detailed refit using quality materials. Recent upgrades, amounting to £15,000, include a powered Lofrans windlass, a Sidepower bow thruster, an upgraded steering system, and new protective covers. Fully equipped with navigation, communication, and safety gear such as a Garmin chart plotter, Furuno navigator, and Simrad VHF, Odyssey is registered with the SSR and ready for immediate use.
Odyssey was built in 1985 and is thus now a ‘classic’ motor boat. It is an attractive and practical ‘weekender’ estuary/inshore coastal cruiser which is much admired around its Suffolk base. With a GRP layup typical of that era which is much more robust than today’s similar vessels Odyssey was a West Country boat all her life until bought by the current Suffolk-based owner last year. She has had only five owners from new and for over 20 years was owned by a meticulous gentleman who lavished time and money on her maintenance and kept detailed records of work done. The history file is thus large and comprehensive and the boat is particularly well-equipped. The 2023 pre-purchase survey for the current owner summarised her condition as – ‘structurally sound after a detailed refit in recent years with quality materials, in satisfactory serviceable order and ready for immediate use. A good example of her type.’ The surveyor added several recommendations and advisory notes. Following purchase and transport to Suffolk all these items were dealt with professionally, and some major system improvements were added to make Odyssey an easy and safe boat to use single-handed around the Suffolk Rivers. Chief amongst these were the replacement of the manual windlass with a powered Lofrans unit with cockpit control, and the addition of a Sidepower bow thruster. The steering system was refurbished, the cockpit cover was serviced and reproofed, and new side window, windscreen and wheelhouse roof covers were added to protect the superstructure’s wooden trim. In all some £15,000 was invested in 2023 in updating and improving Odyssey. She is registered with the SSR.
Odyssey comes with full domestic equipment, plus - Garmin chart plotter and echo sounder; Furuno navigator; Simrad VHF; a handheld VHF; compass; 6 x inflatable lifejackets, lighting, chairs, tables, etc.
