BEAR NECESSITY is a lovely example of the popular Hallberg-Rassy 34 model.
BEAR NECESSITY has always been based on the South Coast of the UK she has been lightly used by her owners. Most recently she has been sailing in the Western Solent with notable upgrades and works completed to keep her in tip top condition.
Rarely do we see a Hallberg-Rassy 34 in such good condition, bearing all the signs of a proud and devoted owner. She is very easy to sail short handed with single line reefing to the main and integrated preventer. The Evolution Autopilot and Axiom display are right at the helm position providing real time information to the crew.
Below decks the mahogany finish is superb and complemented with modern blinds to the Portlights. Sleeping up to eight crew the Port Saloon Settee converts to a twin bunk also. A bright and practical layout in all areas with grab holds and single level flooring allowing easy movement around the yacht.
With superb sea-keeping and surprising sailing performance on all points of sail the Hallberg-Rassy 34, and BEAR NECESSITY in particular, represent excellent value for money in todays market.

Accommodation
Interior finished in mahogany with matt silk varnish. Full headroom throughout the boat. Blinds to cabin and head portlights. Carpet over varnished sole boards of teak with inlaid holly inlay. Ivory headlining accentuated with mahogany inlays. Webasto cabin heating with outlets in all cabins.
In 2022 the high wear areas of the yacht including chart table and companionway wear re-varnished to a high standard.
- SALOON: Two sofas, starboard side 2.16m and on port side a 1.84m long L-shaped sofa with lockers above and stowage space underneath. Infill extension to L-shaped sofa to make double berth. Stbd saloon berth extended. Lee cloths port and starboard. Bookshelves on both sides. Centreline dropleaf table with bottle stowage in the centre section. Headroom 1.86m.
- GALLEY: On port side with Eno Open Sea cooker with oven and 2 burner hob, complete overhaul and refurbishment 2021, deep stainless steel sinks. Stowage above and below work surface, chopping board, drawers and waste bin. Insulated coolbox with 12v refrigeration unit, New Danfoss control box fitted 2021. Opening window above the galley.
- CHART TABLE: Chart table with chart stowage under. Instrument shelf for navigation instruments. Electric switch panel. Comfortable navigator's seat with stowage under.
- FORWARD CABIN: Double berth 2.03m long and 2.04m wide at the widest part. On both sides, there are lockers above and generous stowage below. Hanging locker on the port side and various lockers on the starboard side. Door leading to saloon.
- AFT CABIN: 2.13m long berth, 1.66m wide at widest part. Hanging locker. Lockers above berth and stowage below. Door leading to saloon. Two opening ports for ventilation and light inc extra opening to cockpit.
- HEADS COMPARTMENT: Interior lining and lockers in white laminate. Watertight shower stall with teak grating. Manual pump action sea toilet. Stainless steel holding tank, can be emptied by gravity or deck pump-out. Porcelain wash basin with stowage above and below. Mirror. 2 Opening ports for ventilation.
