Melonseed Sailboat designed and built by Gig Harbour Boat Works in 2013.

A modern build based on a traditional working boat designed for either sailing or rowing. The rowing performance has never been an afterthought for Gig Harbor Boat Works, whose innovative rowing seat system has been used by transatlantic rowing race winners and other highly regarded ocean-crossing rowers. The Melonseed features Gig Harbor’s unique system, tandem sliding seats with eight large diameter wheels running on 16 stainless steel sealed ball bearings. The smooth, silent mechanism can be converted instantly to a fixed seat by dropping two stainless ball-lock pins into place. The two sets of Oars have been upgraded to Concept 2 Carbon Shaft oars (9.5ft)

This sailing model has a sealed deck, a balanced lug rig and a daggerboard which still allows dual sliding seat rowing with the mast up. The balanced lug rig gives the sailboat good performance in light wind yet requires no stays to support the mast making it very easy to rig.
