Acerca de este Ice Yachts ICE 33

English

Red-hulled carbon rocket ship from Ice Yachts and Felci Yacht Design. Built to compete under ORC and IRC and presented in fully-equipped and ‘ready to go’ condition for the 2024 season.

FURTHER BROKER’S COMMENTS:

The ICE 33 represents the latest generation of highly competitive racing yachts designed by Italian designer Umberto Felci. A 10m monohull, with zero compromises, envisioned to sail fast in real time and to perform great results in IRC and ORC Categories. 72m2 upwind and 210m2 downwind with a 2m retractable bowsprit.

PHELIA is hull No.5 and boasts many specification highlights including:-

• Carbon fibre epoxy infusion sandwich construction

• Hall Spars Carbon fibre mast and boom

• Carbon fibre rig

• Carbon fibre retractable bowsprit

• Foldable outboard engine

• Full set of Millennium racing sails wardrobe

• Yamaha 9,9 hp outboard engine

• Boat trailer

MANUFACTURER’S COMMENTS:

PHELIA, made by Felci Yachts Design, is the fifth ICE33 produced and represents our very latest generation of racing boats.

We were asked to design a simple handling , no compromise boat , 10 metre-long mono hull, conceived to be super-fast in real time, whilst simultaneously offering the chance to achieve excellent results in handicap races such as the IRC, ORC Sport Boat Category and the brand new HPR.

The whole project is aimed at extremely high performances as being the key to enjoy sailing, getting results in regattas, and above all, giving this new racer boat a long life span.

The hydrodynamic concepts behind this new 33ft hull, very innovative, set aside for a period of time, have reacquired popularity, being improved by recent CFD studies, done using the most sophisticated software available, and embraced by other famous naval architects design studios. This hull gives the double objective of having very little friction resistance and slight wave resistance at the lower angle and thus ensures excellent performance when sailing downwind in a light wind, together with an increase in heeling, an increase in the righting moment, therefore in the power available, that gives high performances when sailing upwind, too. A high modulus Hall carbon mast with PBO Smart rigging, the very latest generation of deck equipment and numerous small but high quality details such as, for example, carbon pulpits and stanchions, complete the efficacy and the “look” of this thorough-bred racer

DESIGNER’S COMMENTS:

The ICE33 represent the latest generation of raw racers designed by Italian designer Umberto Felci of Felci Yachts. A 10m length monohull, with no compromises, envision to sail fast in real time and to perform great results in IRC and ORC Categories.

The 33ft hull has been improved by recent CFD studies. These latest CFD studies have caused us, to reassess the potentiality of these hulls that we could define as “high stability form rounded hulls”. The weight of the bulb comprises 55% of the final weight, in theory it could be further reduced in order to optimise the 33’ in conditions of particularly light wind. From the structural and constructive point of view the choices were made with the objective of creating a composite as light as possible but at the same time one that would meet the minimum laminates imposed by ISO regulations. There has been detailed work in studying the interconnections between the structures, the forestay and shroud fitting attachments, the fin recess and its reinforcement structure.

SPECIFICATION

CONSTRUCTION

RCD Status:

Hull & deck Construction:

• Hull is laminated with infusion technique, in sandwich of composite materials using carbon fibres with epoxy resin and PVC foam core with different density and thickness.

• The yacht is compliant with the EU’s Recreational Craft Directive and is categorised ‘B’

• Deck is laminated with infusion technique, in sandwich of composite materials using carbon fibres with epoxy resin and PVC foam core with different density and thickness.

• The localized reinforcements are made with unidirectional and biaxial carbon fibres.

• The structures either longitudinal or transverse (bulkheads and floors) are entirely vacuum laminated in epoxy sandwich using glass-carbon fibres and PVC foam cores at various densities.

• Many composite elements are post cured with heat treatment.

• The chainplates for the shrouds, forestay and backstay are composite and steel for optimum strength and longevity.
