"Pomeroy Swan" is a beautifully presented S&S Swan 44, built and launched in 1973.
Based in the UK with her last two owners, "Pomeroy" is a real gem and has been lucky to have had recent owners with such a passion for this yacht.
A full respray, new carbon mast, full teak overhaul and engine refurbishment all in the last few years are just some examples.
Not only an exquisite and completely capable cruising yacht, she is a real bandit on the race track too, with super competitive IRC rating if occasional racing takes your fancy too.
A yacht not to be missed.

The Swan 44 by S&S - 1972 - 1975
S&S design #2112
75 hulls built.
Pomeroy Swan hull #33.
The S&S Swan 44 is one of the most popular and successful Swan Yachts built to date.
Launched originally in 1972 as an IOR racer to compete in major offshore yacht races, these yachts were built tough, but of course comfortable enough for longer distance passage making.
Still as popular today as they were when new, this Swan 44 is a leading example of the type of longevity that these yachts hold.
Recent and notable works include;
- Full respray of topsides and gloss in summer 2019
- Teak decks had all caulking removed and seams re done……..the whole deck was then re-caulked and sanded, estimated remaining thickness of teak around 10mm
- New Axxon carbon mast 2016 (painted white) rigging new at same time.
- New Ubi Maior “jiber” furling headstay 2018 (light weight furling rod forestay)
- Engine removed and overhauled during the 2019 refit with a new prop and stern gland fitted at the time plus various other works.
Very competitive IRC rating of 0.983 - the idea with the boat and the sails was to make something you could win a RORC race with and go straight off for a weeks cruising after without changing anything
MANUFACTURER’S COMMENTS:
“The Swan 44 sleek, smooth low-profile is one of the most successful big production boats available.
A winner of the Boat of the Show Award at the 1973 Earls Court Boat Show and the Italian Nastro d’oro Eleganza Mare in the same year, the Swan 44 offers both good performance and superbly finished and fitted accommodation.
She is built with the care and craftsmanship that has become all too rare in modern boat-building. Several of the Swans have been entered in the Admiral’s Cup Race.
The ocean racing intentions are obvious from the boat’s flush deck and the fact that there is no companionway from the cockpit. Entry to the cabin is through hatch. All deck fittings are of high standard. The fore cabin is intended primarily for stowage although there are two comfortable pipecots fitted.
The main attraction is giving a good performance with combination with a first class interior. She’s very fast, a powerful racing yacht that offers tremendous value.
She is built in Finland and the beautiful matt finish given to the joinery is to Nautor’s excellent world-wide reputation. So remember nothing beautiful is easy to come by – the Swan 44.

CONSTRUCTION
The hull is a relatively unsophisticated but strong, using an un-cored laminate of roving and chopped strand matting, with far more mat than is typical in todays yachts.
The Mat is great for impact resistance and coupled with her three full-length longitudinal beams (stringers), the overall finish is exceptionally strong.
In addition the majority of the interior furniture is bonded to the hull, again adding stiffness and strength.
The decks are a fibreglass/balsa sandwich construction, with a teak overlay as standard.
Pomeroy Swan is fitted with a long fin keel, skeg and spade type rudder. During 1973 S&S designed the Skeg and Rudder as grip was a problem when sailing and extended both sections by around 8 inches.
