Hydra-Sports Boats had its humble beginnings in 1973 with the primary motivation to create sport fishing boats that could handle high speeds and rough waters while also offering comfort. The Tennessee-based brand quickly gained recognition in the boating world due to its advanced hull design which used Kevlar and then advanced to carbon fibre to achieve its objectives. Over time, Hydra-Sports Boats stood out among competitors due to its commitment to quality, performance, and innovation. This served as a springboard for expansion, which not only allowed the brand to meet the high demand for its models but also paved the way for the introduction of new designs.
The brand underwent several notable changes in the 21st century. Following the acquisition of Hydra-Sports by MasterCraft in 2001, the company’s philosophy continued to evolve, with the focus shifting towards producing even larger, more luxurious vessels while maintaining the legendary performance for which Hydra-Sports was known. By 2010, however, Hydra-Sports was sold to a private equity firm, Wayzata Investment Partners.
Today, the Hydra-Sports brand has been renamed "HCB Center Console Yachts" after the company elected to diverge from its original focus on sport fishing vessels. The new HCB brand continues the tradition of building luxurious, high-performance boats, but also pushes the boundaries of size, with models such as "The Estrella"— the largest centre console boat in the world. Now based in Florida, USA, the hallmark of the HCB Center Console Yachts — formerly Hydra-Sports Boats — remains their commitment to quality, performance, and innovation, setting them apart as a leading brand in the industry.
