1993 Beneteau Oceanis 351.  £46,950    FRESHLY ON THE MARKET!

The Oceanis 351 was an extremely successful design; at one point being acclaimed as the most popular 35 footer in Europe. Many of those examples were sold for charter operations of course. 'Rosa' has always been in private ownership and appears to have been well spec'd by a succession of experienced and discerning owners.

The underwater sections have been epoxied and she benefits from a new mast and replacement of the standing rigging, along with much of the running rigging at the same time. Also, a new genoa in 2021 (the mainsail dates from 2005) and additionally much attention to electrical and electronic details in the current ownership.

The Oceanis 351 offers indulgent space below and in the uncluttered cockpit and this example, with its almost equisized aft cabins can accommodate a growing family of mixed sex children, or three couples, or simply offers voluminous stowage in one of the aft cabins and comfort for four people in the other cabins.

Accommodation

'Rosa' is of the 'three-cabin' layout, with a twin berth cabin forward, linear galley to port within the main saloon, seating and dining table to starboard opposite the galley; heads compartment to starboard (aft of the dining area), opposite a forward-facing and independent chart table. With two equal sized and mirrored aft cabins, each with a double berth. 

The Forward Cabin: provides a triangular double berth ahead of a full width sole area. There is no recourse to in-filling cushions for example.  To port side, behind the access door there is a narrow seat inboard of a closed, shelved locker and to starboard is a half-height hanging locker. Good light and ventilation values are achieved by opening portlights to the coachroof sides and an overhead, forward facing hatch above the berth itself. Both windows and hatch are provided with roller blinds.

Within the Main Saloon; a generous and almost elliptical-shaped dining area is located toward the starboard side, with good light values provided by fixed hull port and deck light, supplemented by opening portlights to the coachroof side. Stowage lockers beneath the seating and behind some of the backrest cushions. The table is of relatively good size and firmly mounted.

A Linear Galley offers the kind of space and practical utility that only such galleys offer; featuring a large, moulded and refrigerated cold box aft of the cooker, a generous saucepan locker beneath the latter and closed locker spaces beneath one and a half stainless steel sinks (fitted with hot & cold mixer tap, plus supplementary cold-water back up supply). The under work surface lockers have been thoughtfully fitted out with supplementary shelf and storage racks and rubbish bin to maximise their utility. Good ventilation is ensured by an opening portlight directly above the cooker, while a fixed hull port outboard provides dancing light reflections from the sea's surface and enticing views for the 'galley' worker while down below. The fully gimballed cooker is refreshingly clean and is a Neptune 2500 by Plastimo, with grill and oven as well as two burners to the hob.

Immediately abaft the galley, to port side of the companionway is a dedicated, forward-facing and independent chart table, with the main 12V DC and 220-240V AC distribution panels located outboard of the Navigator's left shoulder. A flat screen monitor is fitted above the table itself, with VHF and entertainment radios located here too. 

The Heads Compartment is located to starboard side, opposite the chart table and conveniently well placed at the foot of the companionway down from the cockpit. The relatively central location provides equal access to all three sleeping cabins and easy daytime use. Formed primarily by a GRP, wash-down moulding, the heads is fitted with a marine-flushing toilet connected to the sea through a holding tank. There is a moulded hand basin and separate shower head (mounted on the aft bulkhead of the compartment. 

Twin Aft Cabins are mirror images of each other and are of equal size. Both feature a fixed hull port and fixed, curved port that forms a corner to either side of the companionway. These are supplemented by overhead, opening hatches for additional light and ventilation. There are half-height hanging lockers in each aft cabins.

The interior woodwork is of the more popular 'Teak' finish, with Teak and Holly soleboards, while the soft furnishings are of a soft green, with grey fleck 'Dralon'-type of fabric.

Blown, hot air heating via a Webasto heater is fitted, with 220-240V AC, UK sockets fitted around the yacht. A stereo CD/radio is fitted, together with speakers in the main saloon and cockpit and the flat screen monitor may be used as a TV, with a Glomex omni-directional antenna that is fitted at the masthead, together with a signal amplifier.

Mechanical and Electrical systems

A Volvo Penta 2003 marine diesel, rated at approx. 28HP is flexibly mounted within a compartment behind the companionway steps and drives a three-bladed, self -feathering propeller through a conventional stainless steel shaft. The shaft runs within a moulded log that is  incorporated within the hull's form to minimise it's exposure to fouling by extraneous ropes and floating debris.

The engine is indirectly cooled and heats the domestic hot water when being run.

A rope cutter is fitted to the propeller shaft, immediately ahead of the 'Brunton' propeller.

Engine running hours are recorded as being 1727 (Sept. 2021).

A Max Power bow thruster is fitted with controls placed at cockpit helm.

Electrical System.
12V DC is provided by a total of six lead acid batteries, with 3 x 100 A/hr batteries serving as the 'Domestic and Service' bank;  a single 85 A/hr battery fitted for engine cranking and two 65A/hr batteries fitted beneath the hanging locker in the forward cabin to energise the bow thruster.

Charging  of the batteries is by engine-driven alternator, photo-voltaic [Solar] panel and 240V AC battery charger (when the vessel is connected to a suitable shore support system. 

A sterling PDAR smart charging regulator is fitted to ensure maximum charging efficiency.

The 220-240V AC system includes Shore support cable, RCD protection, 13 Amp, British specification sockets, immersion heater and the battery charger.

Tankage

Freshwater: 400 litres in two FRP tanks (one forward, one aft) with approx.25 litres held                          in the domestic hot water tank located amidships.

Fuel:             100 litres in polythylene tank on centreline abaft the engine and                                            beneath/between the aft cabins.

Black Water: Approx. 25 litres.

Sails and Spars

Rigged as a masthead sloop on aluminium alloy spars by Z-Spars, with integral in-mast reefing for the mainsail and Facnor below-deck reefing for the headsail. The mast itself was new in 2019, together with its associated standing rigging, together with much of the running rigging. While the furling genoa is also a recent, hardly used replacement (2021). 

This particular Oceanis 351 appears to have been well spec'd, by a knowledgeable first owner, with vertical pole stowage provision for the spinnaker pole, together with a bearing out spar for the spinnaker's guy rope.

A rod kicker is fitted to assist in holding the main boom at the optimum angel for reefing the mainsail.

A 'Lazy' inner forestay, complete with a dedicated second headsail halyard and fitted with an over-centre lever for tensioning so that a smaller headsail than the primary 135% roller-reefing genoa may be attached to the for'deck abaft the for'stay.

Sails

  • In-mast reefing mainsail by Quantum Sails and reported to date from 2005.
  • 130% furling genoa, with foam luff to enhance its shape when reefed - New for 2021
  • Cruising chute (with snuffer), described as relatively small and probably not originally intended for the Oceanis 351, but serviceable and manufactured by Banks Sails.
  • Hanked headsail (possibly by Parker and Kay) and described as a No.2 genoa for use on the inner forestay when deployed.
  • Symmetrical spinnaker by Crusader sails in turtle.
  • An additional spinnaker of considerably older vintage, unmarked as to its manufacturer and looking to be for a smaller boat.
  • Retained for use as a 'Spare' - the previous furling genoa; manufactured using a cruising laminate sail cloth and fitted with a foam luff. This sail is believed likely to date from 2005.

Navigation and Sailing Instrumentation

In the cockpit:

  • Raymarine ST60 Log for speed through water.
