Marlink, the global provider of maritime satellite communications has recently secured a new contract with Irish Ferry Company, Celtic Link. As part of the new contract Marlink will deliver, install and operate its Sealink™ VSAT onboard the Celtic Link Ferry, 'MS Norman Voyager'. Marlink's Sealink™ solution will provide bandwidth of 128 Kbps for data and voice services for administration, passengers and crew.

"It has become increasingly important for us to have always-on, reliable connectivity between our vessel and head office in Rosslare, Ireland. Marlink's Sealink™ VSAT is an exceptional solution that offers cost-effective communication for improved operational efficiency. In addition, Marlink's services allow us to provide added value to both passengers and crew by offering voice, Internet and email facilities onboard for both business and recreational use," comments Rory McCall, Head of Passenger Sales, Celtic Link.

The Sealink™ Ku-band VSAT installed onboard MS Norman Voyager will provide the vessel with a 128 Kbps SCPC channel for up to ten simultaneous telephone lines as well as an administration LAN connected to the Internet for ship management. Marlink will also provide value added services, Prepaid Talk and internet@sea, which will be offered as a service onboard to passengers and crew. The Sealink™ system is also integrated with third-party GSM services.

Based in Rosslare Ireland, Irish ferry operator Celtic Link operates an overnight passenger and freight route between Rosslare and Cherbourg, France. The ship has a capacity of 130 trucks or 500 cars and is capable of carrying 1000 passengers. Marlink routes its services to Celtic Link through its own teleport in Eik in Norway, enabling the satellite communications provider to ensure high quality, reliable connectivity as well as exceptional flexibility of service. Marlink's comprehensive portfolio ranges from its own VSAT solutions Sealink™, WaveCall™ and @SEAdirect, to MSS on-demand services including Inmarsat FleetBroadband and Iridium OpenPort.
