I took ‘Vulgarie Machin’ out for a sail to get the drone photos you see on the listing on March 23rd. I brought 2 good friends along for the ride. We were all thrilled to actually get out on a monohull  and do some ‘real sailing’ as most boats we have been sailing/working on lately have been catamarans. I love a good catamaran and they certainly have their purpose, but being raised on monohulls my whole life there is something about sailing up wind on one ear, holding the wheel and riding the gusts. Setting off from Hodges Creek to the Sir Francis Drake Channel, we were greeted with 15-18kts of breeze from the ESE, a typical tradewind for this time of year. We hoisted the mainsail with ease, unfurled the selftacking jib and we were off. Sailing about 45 degrees off the wind in some moderate seas, we were doing 6-7kts no problem. I let my friend, a bit of a novice sailor, take the forgiving helm and she had no problem holding a course and even throwing in a couple tacks with ease. The self tacking jib was great! We flew the drone and got some amazing photos and videos. I was even more impressed on the way back when the wind angle was above 100 degrees, the boat really lit up and I think we hit 9 kts on the way back to the marina. Never did the helm feel heavy. The sails were all very easy to handle. I did have to go up to the mast to release the tension from the topping lift at one point but other than that there was no reason other than unzipping the sail bag to leave the cockpit. We had a stop on the way in to test out the swim platform and was very impressed with the size of it.

Down below, it is obvious that the Dufour team has put a lot of thought into the layout. Very spacious forward V-berth and ensuite head. Moving aft, the C-shaped settee to port and sofa to starboard with nav station that retracts to make it into a single berth. A giant table that folds up to make a great dining table that can accommodate 6 or more. Moving aft you have a nice galley with a generous top & front load fridge, double sink stove with cover for added counter top space and ample storage throughout. Basically identical aft cabins with large queen size berths and a good sized head to port. Also good access to the 50HP Volvo Penta under the companion way stairs and access from either aft cabin. Did I mention ICE COLD AC on the dock??

All in all, a great layout, functional, fun boat to get out and go sailing!
