Built in 1978 this nimble masthead sloop is still an absolute pleasure to sail... designed by Paul Elvstrom (the pre eminent sailor of his time), Diamond Sky is beautifully balanced and a pleasure to sail and handle solo or with a crew. She is perfectly balanced in any wind strength, and easy to sail on the tiller. Max draft 1.75m.
I had her surveyed prior to purchasing in 2016 and she has had light use since then, including some memorable holidays and sailing with family and friends. In the last 3 years the boat has benefitted from: an engine (Mitsubishi Sole Mini 26hp) service including head gasket renewal; a new depth sounder, a new wind vane and masthead nav lights; renewal of anchor chain; annual antifouling of the hull; and, renewal of various sections of running rigging. The sails were upgraded (Main had a transparent window fitted) and the foresail had a UV strip fitted).
In Sep last year I sailed/motorsailed her from Mallorca to Valencia via Ibeza - a lovely and trouble-free trip.
Accommodation is what you might expect of a boat this size and age that is not built like a tub. I've cruised comfortably with two other adults, and with one other adult an 2 children. there is a small double berth in the bow, and saloon seating which converts to a generous double berth. There is a manual heads with shower attachment, and space for a small cooker and fridge.... there is an insulated fridge space for ice or freezer blocks but requires a new motor and wiring if you want a 12v fridge.
The inflatable is a Seago 2.6m with electric pump, and oars. There is a petrol outboard Mariner motor for this - presently requiring a service..
Various tools and lifejackets are included, along with fenders, lines, and an auto pilot for the tiller. There is an old GPS plotter below, although I've always used an android tablet for navigation.
Diamond Sky is presently on a temporary berth at Valenciamar, a modern marina with exceptional facilities, and exceptional value with super friendly and helpful staff.
NOTE: Diamond Sky was out of the water at Bonaire Marina (on Pollenca Bay, Mallorca) from March 2020 to August 2022 - I was unable to access her until summer 2023 due to pandemic restrictions, so I gave up the permanent mooring.
I have recently replaced the 4 main stays (Aug 2022) and have fitted a brand new Plastimo 811S furler (appx £1,100). Like all boats of this age there will always be something to do to maintain or upgrade - but she is exceptionally pleasurable to sail and will continue to give pleasure for many more years if cared for.
The cooker in the photos was rather tired so I have removed it - the space is useful and can be used as required by the new owner.
I'd be happy to discuss options and viewings. A lovely sailing boat, eager to get back on the water, priced to sell (very) quickly. I would also be happy to discuss a sale of 50% share of her, for £6,000. Sensible offers considered - please arrange a viewing or survey as required.
