Luxury British boatbuilder, Fairline Yachts, unveils its first yacht designed by renowned Italian superyacht designer, Alberto Mancini.

The new Targa 62 GTO is the first of the new generation of models from Fairline Yachts featuring the world class combination of Mancini’s stunning Italian styling, rigorous and proven naval architecture by renowned Dutch firm Vripack and the hand-crafted, made in Great Britain quality of Fairline’s passionate and skilled craftsmen. The boat is currently in the final modelling stages with production set to begin this autumn and customer deliveries expected in the summer of 2017.

Mancini’s influence is clearly evident in the Targa 62 GTO, resulting in a sleeker style for Fairline. Andrew Pope, Head of Design at Fairline Yachts, explains, “The benefit of working with external designers is they push the boundaries of what is considered possible. Alberto has brought a fresh approach in his interpretation of Fairline’s design language. With the Targa 62 GTO, we have an exciting new shape which clearly retains Fairline’s design DNA. It is a progression –  an evolution not a revolution – and an exciting first step in Fairline’s future design journey. Similarly, our naval architects, Vripack – who have a huge amount of experience working across boats of all types – have designed a hull shape that allows for maximum volume, which in turn has significantly improved comfort levels on board, as well as making the boat stable, dry and very safe.”

The Targa 62 GTO is designed to suit Fairline’s varied global client base, offering complete flexibility of layout with a multitude of options to suit each individual customer. For example, there are three different galley arrangements, allowing clients to choose the best configuration to suit their needs. A choice of long cockpit or long saloon variants, the former offering large outdoor space, the latter for those where air conditioned interior space is more important. Maximising space and comfort are the key features of the Targa 62 GTO with every centimetre optimised. Regardless of specification, owners will find a large saloon and cockpit as well as an impressive full-beam master cabin with adjoining full-beam en-suite. The boat features a large sliding, glazed sunroof and powered patio doors that disappear through the cockpit floor transforming the main deck and adding to the overall sense of space and light.

As well as ensuring the seakeeping and handling qualities that Fairline is known for, Vripack focused heavily on minimising noise and vibration levels throughout the boat. This, in conjunction with Fairline’s proven monocoque construction, maximises on board comfort for all.

Mancini adds, “It has been an adrenaline fuelled adventure working on the new boat for Fairline. It’s been such a privilege to work on the project from the very beginning – starting with a blank sheet of paper. The inspiration was to empathise with the heritage of Fairline whilst drawing on my experience designing megayachts to influence the sense of space.

With one design team working on both the interior and exterior, the spaces flow seamlessly. We have focused on perfecting the quality, design and details of the boat. We wanted the boat to be recognisable as a Fairline, but with a fresh new approach that encompasses Italian styling, Dutch engineering and British craftsmanship. I am very excited about unveiling the final result!”

Russell Currie, Fairline Yachts Managing Director, says, “Since taking the helm at Fairline Yachts in January, I have said that our number one goal is to build boats that our customers want to own and our dealers want to sell. The Targa 62 GTO is the first of a new generation of yachts from Fairline. With the feedback already received from customers and dealers around the world of this stunning new model, I can say with confidence that Fairline Yachts is very much on the right course to achieve that goal.”

Detailed layout plans and interior finishes will be available to view at the Cannes, Southampton and Fort Lauderdale Boat Shows later this year.
