Life on board Blue Legend - by the Skipper

Blue Legend

As a family cruising vessel Blue Legend is without doubt the perfect motor yacht. She was purpose built for Med cruising with a large aft deck seating area under a Bimini as well as open air space for sunbathing and relaxing.

The accommodation is ideal for a family of four travelling with two friends (or a family of six). Each cabin has an en-suite bathroom which makes life simple with children on-board. The two crew cabins allow for a Captain and deckhand if the owner prefers not to skipper the vessel.

During the last few summers, we have had guests and family on board with small grandchildren, and for a family of four in the forward cabins (Master and Guest Cabin) it is extremely convenient and leaves other guests and the crew to the aft of the boat.

We have numerous water toys on board including the tender, SUP’s, kayak, towables, and of course a Seabob, as well as scuba equipment. All of this is in the garage along with a boarding ladder. The garage deck is only 30 centimetres above the water and makes launching and recovery easy. The children love swimming from the stern and messing around with the toys.

The aft deck with comfortable seating for 10 makes a safe play area for small children within sight of parents. Aft of the seating area is reserved for deck chairs, and older children without constant supervision.

As the vessel is coded for passengers, the safety construction takes into account young people, for instance when we bought her we were required to double the number of safety wires around the stern so that the smallest child cannot easily fall overboard.

The saloon has a fold-out table which will accommodate 6 people comfortably for a meal, often utilised when cruising in Northern Europe where the weather is not always perfect!

Although Blue Legend can cruise at 20 knots we rarely steam at greater than 12 knots. This allows us to tow the tender, and more importantly allows for social activities to continue unabated whilst the vessel is underway. Something that is difficult on modern high-speed vessels.

The galley is large enough for the “chef” to prepare meals as well as mums to take charge of children’s snacks. It has a Quooker Cube for instant boiling, hot, cold, still, and sparkling water, a godsend when cruising in the Med where drinks are regularly sort by all.

Having extensively travelled the UK and Mediterranean, and the long passages in-between, I can honestly say I have never been on a more well-found small vessel. I have been a Master Mariner for 40 years and have never had as much fun as I have had owning and skippering this boat. She is truly a one off, built to the highest possible standard and fitted out for the most discerning gentleman and his family. We have travelled over 12,000 nautical miles in her and have enjoyed every minute of that time even through Covid, Brexit and some awful weather.
