Property industry swaps land for sea

people on sailing boat

Businesses from the property industry swapped their suits for lifejackets yesterday (September 19) to take part in a brand-new sailing regatta.

TheYachtMarket.com Regatta is taking place alongside TheYachtMarket.com Southampton Boat Show this week. And while the marine industry may have descended on the city for the event, it was the property industry taking to the water for a day of racing as part of the regatta’s Property Cup.

The cup has proven the most popular day of the entire regatta, with 100 people from more than 20 different organisations associated with property taking part. Among them were:

  • BC Club
  • Southampton Property Association
  • Portsmouth Property Association
  • Nearne Sutton
  • Dutton Gregory
  • Lee Peck Media
  • Rees Leisure
  • Forelle Estates
  • Bellway Homes
  • Abbey Office Solutions

Sailing on a fleet of Sunsail Match F40s, the six teams battled it out in a day of intense racing on Southampton Water. It was a hotly-fought day but in the end it was Forelle Estates who took first place, with Bellway Homes coming in second and Rees Leisure in third.

Representatives from Forelle Estates were presented with their award by TheYachtMarket.com’s CEO and Founder, Richard W. Roberts.

Richard said: “Today couldn’t have been a better finish to TheYachtMarket.com Regatta. We’re absolutely thrilled with the way it’s been received, particularly by the property industry. We hope we have inspired more people who perhaps wouldn’t have considered sailing before to head out onto the water and give it a try.”

TheYachtMarket.com Regatta ran from September 17 to 19 and featured four cups:

  • The City Cup (Sep 17) – pitting teams from the city of Southampton against one another for victory on the water
  • The Women’s Cup (Sep 18) – a day dedicated to all-female crews
  • The Community Cup (Sep 18) – young people from Southampton trying a day of sailing
  • The Property Cup (Sep 19) – bringing businesses from the property industry together to race on Southampton Water

The regatta was created as part of TheYachtMarket.com’s bid to get more people out on the water and trying sailing.

Other partners included Rees Leisure, Sunsail, who provided a fleet of Sunsail Match First 40s, complete with skippers, and British Marine.

TheYachtMarket.com Regatta also supported worthy causes. A percentage of entry fees will be split between Geoff Holt’s Wetwheels and Sail 4 Cancer.
