50 Years of Antigua Sailing Week

Beautiful Antigua Sailing Week

50th Antigua Sailing Week

This prestigious event was founded by a group of friends in 1968, they were all hoteliers and started the regatta as a way of extending the season and getting people to stay a little longer.

Saturday 29th April 2017 marks the start of the 50th Antigua Sailing Week, one of the biggest events in the Caribbean season.

The 50th edition of the regatta will begin with the Peters & May Round Antigua Race on Saturday 29th April 2017. Following that will be five days of competitive racing off the rugged south coast of Antigua which will wrap up on Friday 5th May 2017.

As you can imagine for a flagship regatta for the Caribbean, the regatta draws a large number of yachts and competitors from all over the globe. This year there are over 150 yachts entered; from the smaller end, there are Melges 24’s and Cork 1720’s, some racer yachts like TP52’s, Volvo & Whitbred 60’s, then the long-term supporters of the Caribbean like Peter Harrisons and his Farr 115, SOJANA.

It is safe to say there is some serious racing to be had at this regatta, but there is also a serious and fun packed shore side party schedule that is more than enough to keep the non-sailors happy – especially the Antigua Sailing Week’s Reggae in the Park at the historic Nelson’s Dockyard, the headline act being the internationally acclaimed reggae artist, Damian Marley, the youngest son of the legendary Bob Marley.

To everyone taking part at this year’s event, the team at TheYachtMarket.com wishes all the sailors fair winds and good sailings, we will be watching the results, have a great week of racing.
