YachtBid.com, working in partnership with De Valk Yacht Brokers and BVA Auctions, has sold the famous CRN classic Nordic Starby auction this week. Over 500 registered bidders from 27 countries took part in the online auction, with the winningbid of over $1.5 million.

The 37.20-metre Nordic Starwas originally launched in 1978 for actress Virna Lisi, Italy's answer to Marilyn Monroe. The superyacht’s star-studded ownership history over the decades has included icons such as Frank Sinatra and Tony Curtis.

Nordic Staris the latest in a fleet of over 350 yachts successfully auctioned in collaboration with selling brokerssince the launch of YachtBid six years ago. Having started with small yachts in the Netherlands, YachtBid now sells across Europe and in global locations such as Hong Kong, the Caribbean and Dubai. The average value of the auctioned yachts has also increased year by year. YachtBid currently has offices in Spain and on the Balearic Islands, with more due to open soon.

Unique concept

The YachtBid concept is unique in the way it involves active cooperation between the largest auction platform in Europe and the selling broker, with everyone playing the role they do best. A separate auction strategy is developed for each yacht, with each vessel being sold ‘As Is Where Is’.

The auction itself is comprised of two stages. The first involves the auction being promoted for a period of six to eight weeks while bidders register. This process is actively monitored via data analysis and biddingstartsonce the number of bidders reaches a certain level. The second stagesees participants bid against each other over a period of one week. The highest bidder wins the auction, and the seller then has 24 hours to decide whether to accept their bid. Over 85% of the vessels auctioned on YachtBid to date have sold.

Once the bid is accepted, the payment and transfer processes are simple. The buyer receives an invoice and pays via the safe third-party account of BVA Auctions within five days. The yacht is then transferred in its current condition without inspection to the buyer, with BVA Auctions transferring the net profit to the seller. More information and a list of all sold yachts is available at YachtBid.com.
