A Commercial Cable Layer is a ship specifically designed to lay underwater cables, such as fibre optic, coaxial, and electrical cables. These ships are equipped with the latest navigation and navigation tracking technology, as well as powerful cable-laying machinery and equipment to lay cables on the seabed over long distances and in deep water. The machinery may include a dynamic positioning system, a cable storage system, and a cable laying plough. Commercial Cable Layers are also used to repair existing cables, with specialized equipment aboard the vessels allowing them to be remotely operated in extreme conditions.
