The Baltic 51 - Gatsby is a 1988 classic long-distance cruiser crafted by Baltic Yachts in Finland, and it represents the final model of this esteemed type. Measuring 16.27 meters with a 4.65-meter beam, this yacht was designed as a cruising vessel with high regatta potential, utilizing advanced materials such as a balsa sandwich construction and unidirectional rovings for enhanced rigidity and reduced weight. Renowned for winning several regatta prizes and highlighted in Wilfried Erdmann's book "An Impossible Törn," this yacht has proven its capabilities in numerous Atlantic crossings. Despite experiencing several groundings, all damages were professionally repaired, the most recent being in Neustadt in 2021. Lovingly maintained, the Gatsby is set to grace various Baltic Sea ports through August 2024 and is available for viewing.

Constructed as a cruising yacht with high regatta potential, the Gatsby was developed in high quality and from the best high-tech materials of the time. The rod rigging and the hull made of balsa sandwich construction in combination with unidirectional rovings give the ship solid, rigidity coupled with a low weight of only approx. 16t for this class of ship.
The Gatsby won several prizes in regattas and became a legend thanks to the book "An Impossible Törn" by Wilfried Erdmann.
The Gatsby was able to demonstrate its capabilities on various Atlantic crossings and is still sailed by its owners today as an ocean-going cruise ship. The yacht grounded several times but all of which were professionally repaired, most recently in Neustadt 2021.
Lovingly and lavishly maintained, the Gatsby will spend the 2024 season until August in various ports on the Baltic Sea and is available for viewing.
