About this Moody Carbineer

English

This Moody Carbineer is a lovely classic vessel that bridges the gap of being a modern construction with elegant, classic styling & design that draws attention in every Marina. Designed by Laurent Giles and built by AH Moody & Sons, only 32 of these boats were built, with Narooma being the last one constructed & thus benefitting from the 10 years of improvements & developments of the Marque. She is Ketch rigged & fitted with a 115 HP Perkins engine, all of which make her easy to handle & a safe, comfortable, long distance cruising yacht. Given the space, storage & accommodation, she would make a first class liveaboard. With 6 berths in 3 cabins, 2 heads & a lovely deck saloon, there is so much to appreciate. This boat just oozes quality, class & style & is a real head turner. She is suffering from some Osmotic Blistering and a full, recent survey is available to interested parties, but her price has been significantly reduced to allow for this. She is currently lying Southampton.

Construction

Moody Carbineer 46 built by A H Moody & Sons Ltd in 1979 to a Laurent Giles design. White painted GRP hull and superstructure with teak decks. Long fin keel with encapsulated lead ballast. Wheel steering to skeg hung rudder. Self draining cockpit.

Only 32 Carbineer's were ever built showcasing the design and build quality Moody are famous for. Narooma is the last of the later 46 versions with the extended stern to create a more spacious aft cabin with greatly improved headroom.

Owners Comments

I purchased Narooma in 2011 after a full, out of water survey by Chris Moody. At the time, there were some signs of osmotic blistering below the waterline but this did not concern Chris Moody or Myself and it has been monitored each year and is no worse now, than it was then. Also, with the hull being 34mm think at the point of the Bow Thruster, the hull is solid. The rigging, whilst over 10 years old, has been checked each year & in 2022, at the request of my Insurance Company, I had a 10 year, out of water survey completed which is available to interested parties. In addition, a library of instruction manuals and original drawings will be handed over upon sale.

Brokers Comments

This Moody Carbineer is a very special boat. From the minute you see sight of her with her varnished trim & elegant woodwork glinting in the sun, you will think she is a Classic Yacht from a bygone era. She has the lines and styling of a boat that just ouzes Classic Class. However, in reality, she benefits from a modern GRP Hull, meaning a lot less work & maintenance required. Step onboard & the feeling of warmth & sophistication continues with an abundance of beautiful teak furniture and cabinets that have clearly been built by Master Carpenters, yet still offering so much space and accommodation you won’t fail to fall in love. For those a little more adventurous, she would make an absolutely stunning liveaboard & blue water cruiser, but she could be equally comfortable as a second home on the south coast that you can take out sailing whenever you want. Whatever you choose to do with this magnificent sail boat, it has so much potential and flexibility, your adventures are only just beginning.

Moody are known for building yachts of distinction & this Carbineer was built in the 1970’s by AH Moody & Son, who, at the time, were bespoke Boat Builders of the highest calibre & Narooma reflects this throughout. Once described by Yachting Monthly as the “Bentley of Sailing” this description sums her up well. Her new owner will not be disappointed with beautiful classic looks, solid build quality, space & accommodation. She is clearly a very capable boat & is a must for viewing. She is currently lying in Chichester & is available for viewings by appointment through Aspire Boat Sales.
