About this Herreshoff Araminta

English

The original ARAMINTA now available for her next steward!  Currently dockside for the Fall 2022 sailing season

ARAMINTA is L Francis Herreshoff’s clipper bow ketch (Design no 89), often referred to as “Baby Ti”. Built in Maine in 1954, ARAMINTA has a LOA of 33’, beam of 8’6”, and a 5’ draft.

While maintaining her original design/features, ARAMINTA has undergone many needed improvements: first under the guidance of Maynard Bray in Maine the 1990s, then by George Zachorne in Rhode Island in 2016/17. Since acquiring her from Mystic Seaport ARAMINTA has been well maintained and many improvements made, including new bottom caulking, with ~3,000 silicon bronze fastenings, bronze cast knees as added mast support, modified bulkhead, wider cabin benches with new back support, new forepeak sol, new cockpit bench, new cabin and cockpit cushions, new jib club, and new trail boards.

ARAMINTA also boasts the following new equipment since 2017: complete set of Gambell and Hunter traditional-style sails (main, mizen, jib, genoa, mizen staysail, storm jib), sail covers, 90% of all lines and halyards, Yanmar diesel 15 hp engine (~100 hours), drive shaft, feathering propeller, fuel tank, water bubble, CQR anchor and rode, composting head, and Fairclough cover.

ARAMINTA is a dream to sail - as stated by L Francis in his  Sensible Cruising Designs she “approaches the ultimate in day sailing and short-range cruising”.

Araminta Background

“Araminta” the successor to “Quiet Tune” for the same owner Edwin M. Hill was designed for daysailing and short range cruising in Maine waters. Three feet three inches longer with a clipper bow and with a more generous sail plan than “Quiet Tune” Beautiful to look at a very fast sailer.  This original 33-foot auxiliary ketch designed by L. Francis Herreshoff and built in 1954 by Norman Hodgdon of Boothbay Harbor, Maine.
