English

SEQUEL is a professionally maintained, Downeast style, Cape Dory Open Fisherman 28. She's a classic, New England style cruiser with a flag blue hull, tan soft top, teak windshield, Cetol brightwork and a flexible layout- great for weekend cruising and enjoying the coast with family and friends!  She's been re-powered, with less than 1,000 hours on her Yanmar and shows strongly with many quality and recent updates, including: SIMRAD chat plotter and radar, LEWMAR powered windlass, inverter, and St. Croix dinghy davit system with reinforced transom. Her recent service records/ Seller's 2020 Pre-Purchase Survey reports are available for review upon request.  She's ready for inspection, in her slip at Maine Yacht Center in Portland, Maine.

CAPE DORY OPEN FISHERMAN 28:

" We’ve called upon our experience building commercial fishing vessels and over 20 years of building quality sailing vessels to produce the Cape Dory 28 models. Starting with the incomparable seakeeping abilities of the downeast semi-displacement hull and adding a rich yachty interior has resulted in a truly remarkable power cruiser ... the Cape Dory 28. " - Cape Dory Yachts sales brochure

Sequel was built by Cape Dory Yachts with a solid fiberglass, semi-displacement hull and a full keel. She is powered by a single, inboard Yanmar diesel engine. The cabin top is fitted with an opening hatch that provides light and ventilation below.  Teak hand rails on the cabin top and teak toe rails run from the bow to the stern.  The fore deck has an anchor locker with plow style anchor, windlass and ample rode.

The hull has a vinyl rubrail with a stainless steel striker. This spray rail works to minimize spray into the cockpit and provide a calm and dry ride for ones guests. Her engine room access is unbeatable, with a large, centerline hatch at her helm deck. Sequel's orignal owner's manuals are aboard and convey with the sale of this well-maintained, downeast style cruiser.

" In the 2007 edition of “The Powerboat Guide” author Ed McKnew calls the Cape Dory 28 Open a classic Down East bass-style fishing boat that combines “simple elegance with a spacious cockpit and comfortable cabin accommodations.” It’s a good description. The boat certainly looks the part, with its husky hull, trunk cabin and lobster-yacht windshield frame... The boat’s semi-displacement hull has a full keel and plenty of beam, almost 10 feet. The bow is tall, and a gently sweeping sheer leads to the wide, rounded transom. The large, open cockpit is a step down from the raised bridge deck. The helm station is to starboard, which makes for good sight-lines. There’s a pedestal seat, with a companion to port, a full console for gauges and electronics. The two-step companionway is on centerline...

Below, the accommodations are complete for a couple. The V-berth, which could convert to a dinette, sleeps two with an insert, and there’s a hanging locker and shelf space. The head compartment is to port, amidships, and it’s arranged with a marine head, sink and shower. The compact cruising galley to starboard has a stove, an under-the-counter refrigerator and a sink with hot and cold water. Cape Dory was known for its joinery work, and there’s lots of teak below, giving the boat a traditional look. " - Soundings Sept. 2008 by Steve Knauth

ON DECK:

Starting at a dockside approach, Sequel is a shining example of a classic, downeast style cruiser. She's a well maintained, flag blue hull (awlgripped in 2015), blue bottom, with two toned, tan and white decks, white cabin sides, teak windshield and brightwork in Cetol and a toast canvas top and enclosure at her helm deck. Boarding is a simple step onto her teak, slatted, swim platform or across her gunwhales, whilst grabbing hold of stainless steel u-shaped handrails just aft of the helm deck enclosure. Proceeding forward to her bow deck  and windlass (2016) is safe and secure with a stainless steel bow rail and solid hand rails within easy reach. Mounted below the swim platform is a telescoping swim ladder. Below her waterline, the running gear is protected by a propellor cage.

" Designed with an uncluttered cockpit and flush engine hatch for great fishing action. After a long day on the water, slip into the foc'sle for a shower, hot meal and a great night's sleep. She features the same quality joiner work and accommodations below as the cruiser model. There is lots of room for tackle boxes and rods. If fishing is your game then this is the boat for you. Whether she be powered by a high-tech turbo charged diesel or a reliable Chrysler V-8, she'll whisk you away to the fishing grounds at 20 to 25 knots. CD/28 Open Fisherman ... built with integrity, a boat that can take it." - Cape Dory Yachts

Her aft deck is awash with sunlight, ample space for flexible seating when entertaining or wide open for casting a line while fishing. Two folding captains chairs provide comfortable seating are are easily stowed. Two custom teak deck benches provide ample storage and additional seating. Below either deck hatch is east access to either the prop shaft or steering gear. Centerline at her transom is her brass ensign receiver, the corresponding flag pole can be stored in her deck boxes or below deck. Also at her transom are receivers for her St. Croix Marine Products dingy davit system. Her dingy is not currently included in the inventory transferring with new ownership.

" Cape Dory/28 features a "full keel" and molded in skeg for exceptional directional stability plus adding full protection to the rudder and prop. The hull is comfortable at rest as well as streaming through a steep chop and when the weather threatens she has the speed to head for shore or the seaworthiness to ride it out. " - Cape Dory Yachts

A quick hop up onto her side decks and forward, you're safely within reach of an easy handhold, as you proceed forward to her bow deck. Mounted on top of the vessel's anchor locker is a powered windlass system with foot pedal button controls to port. Sequel is equipped with ample chain and rode for exploring the coast of New England and a sizable anchor. Looking aft you'll see her attractive marine electronics mast centerline, with SIMRAD radar dome, navigation light and VHF antenna on her starboard side.

Sequel's wrap-around windshield is adjoined to her toast canvas enclosure simply with snap attachments. There are two zippered opening windows in the leading edge of the canvas enclosure, zip-off esignglass, clear side panels and three panel aft drop-down wall to complete the enclosure. This canvas bimini/ soft-top could be easily removed for an owner who would prefer an open helm. Zip open and roll up the aft section of her helm deck enclosure, and you're welcomed to a thoughtfully laid out and traditional captain and co-pilot seating arrangement. Two, pedestal based, captains seats are mounted, one to either side of the companionway. Outboard there are hooks for safety gear to be within easy reach, lower shelves for additional storage and bilge pump control access.

At her helm deck, Sequel is outfitted with a full suite of Yanmar engine control/ read out gauges, her throttle, iCOM VHF, horn, wiper, bilge pump and navigation light, windlass control switches and compass. At the co-pilot dash there's a new mounted SIMRAD chart plotter. Her engine hour meter reads: 956 hours as of Sept. 1st, 2022. Centerline is her wooden, bi-folding companionway door.

BELOW DECK:

As we proceed down her companionway, you're greeted with a pleasant and open layout: compact galley to starboard, v-berth sleeping accommodations forward and head compartment to port. Her companionway steps can be removed to reveal two additional service access hatches - one to her engine compartment and the second in her cabin sole for access to a bilge pump. Underfoot throughout the cabin is a solid teak and holly cabin sole.

Her galley is comprised of a two-burner, ORIGO 4500 alcohol-electric stove top, with heat reflector, under a custom wooden cutting board, deep dry storage locker, additional sliding-access storage outboard, deep, single-basin stainless steel sink, paper towel rack, refrigerator with freezer compartment below, drawer storage and dedicated rubbish bin below sink. There's a screened hatch, at about eye level at the galley which provides great natural ventilation and light. Overhead is a dedicated dome light, mounted in the cabin's hardtop.

You'll find the battery control switch mounted to the primary bulkhead, at the base of the companionway steps, to starboard, as well as a fire extinguisher and windlass breaker control for her LEWMAR. Overhead, while standing at the sink, is the vessel's power DC control panel. Outboard of the sink are the AC panel and KISAE Power Inverter, inverter controls. Sequel is equipped with pressurized water via a FLOJECT automatic water pump.

As you proceed past the next bulkhead, the below deck layout converts to a V-berth cabin. There's open locker storage above the berths and a sizable insert cushion and support insert. The V-berth insert support is stowed easily in dedicated caulks inside the vessel's hanging locker to port. The grey upholstery shows well and internal foam of her cushions is very supportive. The vessel's Official USCG Number placard is mounted at the foremost bulkhead, within toe reach of the berth's sleeping occupant. Sequel is also equipped with a brass Wheems and Plath clock.

There are two additional storage compartments below the forward sleeping accommodations. One is currently occupied by her shore power cord. Each berth side enjoys an opening hatch in the cabin top/ hull sides and a dedicated brass reading light. Overhead is a larger, opening hatch at centerline.

There's a spacious hanging locker to port that has further flat/ open storage aloft. There's an additional small storage rack, mounted to the forward bulkhead, on the v-berth side of the galley. This rack currently houses with vessel's manuals, ships papers and additional safety equipment. The enclosed head compartment has a solid wooden door with small slatted section for natural ventilation, recent Johnson Pump marine toilet with holding tank and Y valve for overboard discharge, stainless sink with shower faucet attachment,  storage outboard and below sink and screened hatch. There's a dedicated drain in the cabin sole of the head compartment. Each opening hatch below deck is screened and adorned with sliding curtains. You'll enjoy oil teak joinery throughout these below deck accommodations.
