Custom aluminium expedition catamaran «LIZA» (2012)


This unique expedition catamaran was designed and built to operate in extreme areas of navigation

from high latitudes to the tropics, which is confirmed by its operation area from the White Sea to

the Mediterranean.

The hull is made of a marine grade alloy and is virtually indestructible in sea water. The fuel

volume of 5500 liters allows only under motors to make autonomous transitions over distances up

to 5000 miles. The sails are either completely new (asymmetric spinnaker and Genoa, or with

minimal wear - staysail, mainsail, mizzen)

The highest rigidity of the hull in combination with detachable wheels (4 pieces of 2 wheels each

from combat aircraft) and mounted on keels allows the catamaran to be rolled ashore using hand

winches or as a trailer to a truck without a crane or travellift. Installation / dismantling of carts and

wheels takes 2 hours of work.

The shape of the hull and the protection of the rudder propeller group allows you to go aground and

are not afraid of hitting reefs / rocks when running at full speed. The shaft drive system of

propellers is extremely reliable. The protection of the propellers in the form of a steel cage allows

navigation in ice.

The standing rigging is designed for an unlimited period of operation, the s/steel wires with a

diameter of 19 mm are put into cones and filled with zinc, which is more reliable than conventional

modern fittings. The mast will stay, even one shrouds will be broken.

The masts are lowering for the purpose of passage by river ways, where bridge clearance is low.

Raising / lowering of the masts is carried out without involving a crane, the masts are raised and

lowered to a horizontal position by winches in 1-2 hours of work by the crew.

Everything is designed to be able to provide self-repair in case of breakdowns or damages. Huge

engine bays make it easy to service the engines when needed. The installed fuel filtration system

(UF, centrifugal filter plus automatic fuel polishing) allows the use of even microbially

contaminated diesel, which is usually bunkered in exotic countries. Almost all important systems

have a complete repair kit - diesel, generator, watremaker, charger-inverter, etc. and you don't have

to worry that they will be difficult to repair in case of an accident.

Anchors 67, 45 and 27 kg and three sets of chains 100-120 m allow you to anchor securely even on

difficult deep places.

Two watermakers of 30 litres per hour (12 volts) have been installed, which allows even one of

them to receive 700 litres per day and due to solar energy alone, or 1400 litres when working in


The installed lithium-ion batteries (5000 Ah) in combination with solar panels (2200 W) make it

possible not to use the 12 kW/220V 1500 rpm generator at all in everyday sailing or parking. The generator is

used only when filling the diving cylinders.

The boat is designed with the ability to live aboard when moored in port or ashore - the air-cooled

air conditioner allows you to cool / heat the boat without the need for sea water supply.

The non-combustible materials used in the design of the kat and the compartments isolated from

each other make it possible not to be afraid of fire or flooding.

The main idea in this design was to make the solid and self-sufficient expedition platform for live

aboard as “ship for apocalypse” in our not easy times.
