Boat Details

The Nauticat 40 needs little explanation save it's one of the most popular deck saloon motor sailors built. As a centre cockpit boat she has a palatial en-suite aft cabin, pilot house with panoramic views, internal and external steering. 8 berths and two heads with full standing headroom.

She has been extensively updated in her current ownership.

Hull, Deck & Keel

  • Encapsulated 3/4 fin keel and skeg hung spade rudder.
  • Internal and external wheel steering.

Deck Equipment

The deck is secured by a solid capping rail set on stainless steelstanchions. There is access via two side access gates and a stern gate giving access to a s/s stern boarding ladder for safety and dinghy boarding. Stainless steel bowsprit with teak platform. The bowsprit holds theforestay and is supported by a wire bobstay. The anchor is set from theintegral bow roller.

The side decks are clear and easily navigated.

  • Lofrans Tigres 1500W electric anchor windlass with separate up and down deck switches and wireless remote. Isolation switch in forward cabin.
  • 20kg Delta anchor - New 2020.
  • 80m of 10mm calibrated chain. New 2018.

  • Large work surface and plenty of storage in drawers and lockers.
pilot house

The pilot house has large windows covering three sides giving excellent views. To port is a raised seating area with table and to starboard is the internal helm, navigation station. There is also plenty of storage.

  • New neutral, tartan bound carpet fitted 2021.
Aft Cabin
The cabin spans the full width with large central bed and lockers, shelves and cupboards to the stern and sides. To port is a settee and separate vanity table with seat. To starboard is the en-suite heads and shower.
  • Samsung TV.
  • More than ample storage in lockers, hanging lockers and cupboards.
  • USB charging points either side of bed.
Heads / shower

The en-suite heads has a separate shower stall with seat, The shower has a mixer tap and is mounted on a shower rail.

  • Seaflo electric flush unit fitted to toilet 2020. Manual pump retained.
  • Door fronted lockers outboard.

  • Corner sink with pressurised hot and cold water system via mixer tap.

  • Locker underneath sink.

Navigation Equipment

  • Garmin HD Radar.
  • Garmin 750s Chart plotter at outside helm.
  • Garmin AIS300 VHF with control heads in pilot house and at outside helm. The Garmin VHF talks with the Garmin chartplotter via an NMEA 2000 network.
  • Matsutec HP528A AIS transceiver.
  • Raymarine autopilot. Main control head is in the pilot house with a remote at outside helm.
  • Ctrek C-net 2000 wind / speed / dir at outside helm.
  • NASA wireless anemometer, connectivity checked but still in it's box.
  • Sunnto magnetic compass at outside helm.
  • Traditional hand bearing compass.
  • Autohelm rudder angle indicator on hatch garage.
  • Clipper depth sounder on hatch garage.
  • Sumlog SL speed / log / trip on hatch garage and in pilot house.

machinery & propulsion

  • Ford Lehman SP90 (90hp) marine diesel engine.
  • Borg Warner Velvet Drive with 2:10:1 reduction.
  • Aquadrive anti vibration thrust coupling attached to 40mm s/s shaft exiting hull through a Volvo seal. The shaft is supported by a bronze 'P' bracket.
  • 22/16, 3 blade fixed bronze prop.
  • Ambassador rope "Stripper" fitted new 2021.
  • Engine has done approximately 1640hrs since rebuild in 2004.
  • Cruising revs is around 1500rpm giving approx 6kts hull speed. Fuel consumption is approx 5L per hr.
  • Serviced annually before layup each year with engine oil and filter renewed. Fuel filters replaced as part of spring commissioning.
  • Engine anode in heat exchanger is changed at winter layup and then mid season.
  • Exhaust elbow was replaced in 2019 with stainless steel one from Lancing Marine. The exhaust hose plus clamps between elbow and water lift replaced at the same time.
  • Both engine oil coolers were replaced along with engine transmission oil + water hoses 2018.
  • Electronic throttle and gear controls (by Morse), pilot house and outside helm.
  • VDO rev counter on hatch garage and in pilot house.
  • Temp & Oil pressure gauges on hatch garage and in pilot house.

generator
  • Fischer Panda 4000, 4kw generator fitted in engine compartment.
  • Approx 500hrs running.

  • Fitted in 2018.

bow thruster
  • Vetus 95kgf bow thruster controlled via joystick at the external helm position.
  • Isolation switch in the forward cabin. Shares battery with the anchor windlass.

  • There is an override ON button at the external helm which bypasses theisolator by means of a time delay relay so you never need to worryabout accidently leaving the thruster live.

Plumbing & Tankage

water
  • 2 x stainless steel fresh water tanks with approx 397.5L per tank. Level gauge in galley and both tank senders were replaced in 2018.
  • Pressurised hot and cold water system.

  • Hot water via Sigmar calorifier heated via engine heat exchanger and 240v immersion heater.

fuel
  • 2 x steel fuel tanks port and starboard in the engine room. Approx. 397.5L per tank.
  • The fuel system is flexible with selectable level balance pipes giving ability to close which tank the engine draws from and returns fuel to. Dual selectable primary filters and a sight glass when getting down to the last 12hrs or so of fuel.
  • Both tanks had new senders fitted 2018.
  • Both tanks have sumps with two valve separation and drain cocks. Water is regularly drawn off.
  • Fuel treated with "Diesel Fuel Complete".
