About this Custom Canning - Otis

This salty little downeast styled power cruiser is on just her 2nd owner who gave her a notable number of upgrades in 2004 and then had the engine removed, gone over, and painted and Awlgripped the hull in 2018.  She is a sensible boat providing comfortable accommodations for 2 or 4 if need be in a galley up layout.  Her 100 hp engine provides economical cruise speed of just over 9 knots burning app 2 GPH  Please read the full specifications for details.

Vessel Walk Thru

This custom downeast design provides sensible cruising accommodations for up to 4 but was really designed around a cruising couple.  Her interior is finished in varnished cedar with carpet over fiberglass soles and there is 6'-2" of headroom in the wheelhouse (under the deck beams) and 6'-0" of headroom below decks.   With her 3 large hatches, 2 dorades, 2 opening windshields and 6 opening ports there is plenty of natural ventilation.  During early or late season cruising or simply to take the chill off on a foggy morning there is a diesel fired Dickinson heater.  Ample 12 volt lighting throughout.

Starting forward is the V-berth measuring 6'-0" fore and aft and a bit longer along the length of the V.  Plenty of storage in sliding face lockers below and shelves above.

Next aft the enclosed head is to port with manual W.C. plumbed via a Y-valve to the holding tank.  A small vanity with storage and stainless basin sink is along the forward bulkhead.

Opposite is a hanging locker with shelf above and then a double berth 6'-4" in length aft with storage above and under.  Opposite to port is more storage and the companionway to the wheelhouse area.

The wheelhouse features the helm station to starboard aft of which is a flip up large fixed table that can comfortably handle dinner for 4.  Opposite to port is the straight galley with Frigoboat 12 volt refrigeration/freezer, Galley Maid 3 burner propane stove with oven, and good storage in lockers and drawer and dish/glass racks

The wheelhouse offset to starboard provides access to the cockpit which again will provide space for up to 4 in deck chairs.

The side decks are wider than the norm for a 31' downeast styled boat and with the convenient hand holds allow good access forward.

Throughout the vessel is nicely but simply finished and easy to maintain.

Hull and Deck/Construction

This custom donweast has a solid fiberglass hull finished in Platinum Gray Awlgrip with a red bootstripe done in 2017.  Her bottom was given a hard sanding at that time and is finished with black epoxy anti fouling and has been kept very fair with no paint build up.

The house and decks are fiberglass over marine plywood and are likewise finished with Awlgrip "Moondust" with Griptex in all appropriate areas.  The side decks a wider than normal for a 31' boat making getting fore and aft easier than other vessels.  (He owner, now 94, was going fore and aft on her until this year!

The hull was purchased by her first owner and finished by him and purportedly first launched in 1993.  The first owners cruised her throughout New England but mostly in Maine and took her south one winter.  Her 2nd owner, a notable marine surveyor, purchased her as he downsized from a larger 42' downeast styled boat.  She was cruised extensively by him in Maine but did two trips to FL, one on her own bottom and on the 2nd trip was trucked to Chesapeake, VA and then cruised south from there.
