About this Hallberg-Rassy 36

English

The Hallberg-Rassy 36 Mk I is a fantastic cruising boat with interior space and sea keeping characteristics that belie her <11 LOA. The centre cockpit layout contributes to the 'big boat' feel affording the helmsman a commanding position from the helm and allowing for a large aft cabin below decks.
Beautiful Dreamer benefits from recent standing rigging and battery replacement in 2020. The hull has now been blasted back to original gelcoat and two layers of epoxy primer and two coats of antifoul applied.

Beautiful Dreamer is lying ashore at Hamble Point Marina and will be a lovely yacht for cruising couples and families alike. She is now in her final phase of preparation and is available for viewing now!

Owners Comments

I have owned BD since 2006 and  bought her following a circumnavigation as part of the Global Challenge in 2004/5.  My co-owner Paul Redstone joined me in 2012. She has  been constantly on the move since then as we have explored new coastlines and over- wintered in a variety of harbours and countries. There were two previous owners , a German naval officer who bought her new and Ken Davies, who I bought her from.

After a season in the Solent we sailed her  up the west coast  to Largs which we used as a base for two years to explore the Western Isles and the Outer Hebrides. The following year she over-wintered in Arisaig and  we sailed around Cape Wrath to the Orkneys and then across the North sea to Stavanger in Norway. We caught a ‘summer storm ‘ on that crossing and she sailed brilliantly through the final day and night  in 40 knots and big seas, all under a clear sky. We were only allowed to stay one year in Norway due to VAT rules, so after a winter near Stavanger we sailed up as far as Bergen and then back down to Gothenberg, Sweden to spend the winter. Subsequently we explored the western archipelago and then sailed down through Denmark , the Kiel Canal, the Friesian islands and the waterways of the Netherlands to Amsterdam. A season in Eastbourne allowed us to complete updates on various boat systems  followed by two years  based in Jersey exploring the Channel islands, the Normandy coast and the Scillies. The last few years saw us continuing down the coast of France, across Biscay , a winter in A Coruna and then the Atlantic coast of Spain before a 7 day crossing to Lanzarote. Our plans were to sail from there to the Azores and then back to the UK , but Covid and Brexit struck which ruined the plans. New VAT rules would have meant a high cost if we delayed our return to the UK so we asked a professional crew to sail her back . they got as far as A Coruna before the Orca attack occurred. BD returned to A Coruna for repairs and then was freighted back to the UK.

She is a fine boat and we have had sailed many thousands of miles in her. She handles particularly well in a blow and even in high winds is easy to hold on course and light on the helm. Particular highlights for us were the Western isles of Scotland, the trip across to Stavanger, sighting a pod of (friendly!) Orca off Norway and the fabulous anchorage of  Havre Gosselin  off Sark.

We are selling the boat reluctantly because both of us have acquired medical problems as the years have rolled by and one of us is moving into local politics !
