About this Freeman Seadog 30

Seadog 30 Ketch  -  1973  -  £13,950  **Draft Details Awaiting Owners Approval**

The Seadog 30 offers an unusual combination of qualities - a seaworthy design and a robust heavy-displacement construction sturdy enough to cross oceans, yet a relatively shallow draught and the ability to take the ground if you have the triple keel version like ‘Sea Dog of Polruan’. With a deep and safe cockpit protected from the worst of the weather by a fixed windscreen, wheel steering and masts fitted in tabernacles so they can be lowered if necessary usually without outside assistance, and you have a genuinely go-almost-anywhere boat.

‘Sea Dog of Polruan’ has a wonderful 43hp BETA diesel engine fitted in 2018 with very low 104 hours run, and she is very keenly priced for a quick sale.

This is a nicely presented example, good works have been carried out by her knowledgeable current owners, apart from fitting the new 43hp engine in 2018, also updated and modernised the electrical systems and fitted a new B&G plotter, the topsides were professionally re-finished by the highly respected Baltic Yacht Services of Totnes and both her running and standing rigging replaced.

This yacht is dry, fresh and sweet-smelling to step into and has been freshly anti-fouled. In short, she's ready for use in short order and will be handed-over to a new owner by caring vendors.

With a theoretical maximum of five berths, Seadog 30's actually offer four very practicable berths, with good privacy for the two aft cabin occupants. In common with the majority of her class sisters, the aft cabin's single berths have not been converted to a double berth in this example, but easily could be if required.

The Main Saloon features two single berth/settees that run parallel to the centreline, with a double leafed, folding table, mounted on a part bulkhead between the galley and the saloon area and offset to the port side of the centreline, although the port side leaf is of sufficient size to extend to the starboard berth/settee. The forward bulkhead incorporates two closed and two cave lockers (with the starboard one dedicated as a drinks locker) to either side of the centreline doorway to the for'peak. Good light values are achieved by the relatively deep toughened glass windows to either side of the coachroof, with a small, moulded and translucent opening hatch over the centreline table. Each bunk is provided with a reading lamp, fitted with replacement LED bulbs, as are the more general overhead lights.

A folding Chart table  is located immediately to starboard of the companionway, abaft a  bulkhead separating the galley and chart table from the main saloon. The chart table's surface folds neatly and easily down over the head end of the pilot berth, with a dedicated chart storage drawer beneath the berth's cushion. The main 12V DC distribution board is fitted above, on a hinged panel for ease of access to the wiring and connections behind.

Opposite the chart table and to port is the Galley, featuring a deep and snug U-shape for security when at sea. The original gas cooker has been replaced by a two-burner alcohol cooker, although a modern gas-burning unit could easily be reinstated. Storage abounds, with two top-access lockers for staples and bulky cooking utensils alongside and outboard of the cooker. Crockery and smaller groceries storage are catered for in the bulkhead-mounted unit above a stainless steel sink, with a further shelved locker and four drawers provided beneath work top level. Freshwater is manually pumped. There is no hot water provision as yet (although an engine heated 'calorifier' would be a practicable proposition, with the modern engine being an indirectly cooled unit). A 12V DC ventilator fan, seen in the pictures in currently unserviceable. A natty companionway step unit incorporates a further storage drawer and useful provision for a rubbish bin beneath its upper step.

The depth of window, combined with its level above the galley make for good views from within the galley.

A traditional-style for'peak up forward offers the separation and privacy for a relatively generous sized Heads compartment. Lavac sea toilet offset to port, moulded basin to port with manually pumped fresh water. Overhead opening hatch to foredeck. Forward storage area with shelves along each hull side.

The Aft Cabin is accessed separately from/over the cockpit and features two single berths (heads at the forward end, feet toward the transom). A centreline, fiddled storage surface, together with a box over the steering systems operating rod - toward the port berth have been provided with additional cushions that add to the width of this particular berth and clearly these particularly panels could be replaced with one common support panel over the footwell itself if a double berth was felt necessary.

Four fixed windows provide good light levels within this space and an opening portlight, mounted in the aft face of the coachroof is provided for effective ventilation.

Mechanical and Electrical Systems

The original 38hp Perkins diesel was replaced by a Beta Marine 43 HP engine in 2018. This is a nice engine, and good works were carried out at the time of installation, with the engine beds modified and the compartment painted out in white; new fuel lines provided; new cooling water system, etc, etc.

Beta Marine's 'De-luxe' monitoring panel was fitted at the helm and the engine hours run display within the tachometer currently records only 108.2 hrs run from new

A new propeller shaft and fixed, three-bladed propeller was fitted as part of the installation process.

Two lead acid batteries are fitted to starboard of the engine; 1x 100 A/hr and 1 x 66 A/hr, isolated and switched through two independent double-pole isolation switches.

!2V DC distribution is through a modern, 12-way distribution panel, with digital Voltmeter incorporated. This panel is hinged for practicable and easy access to the wiring behind.

The majority of internal, domestic lighting comprises of recent LED-fitted bulbs, while the deck running lights are recent replacements, but fitted with filament bulbs.

Freshwater - The bilge keels provide approximately 20 imperial gallons each - total combined capacity approx 180Litres.

Fuel - A replacement stainless steel tank, located to port of the engine space, is reported to have approximately 20 imp. gallons capacity (90 litres).
