About this J Boats J34C

J/Boat performance in a comfortable cruiser!!

If that’s your Criteria, look no further.  Whistle Jacket has been very well maintained and continually upgraded by the current and two previous owners with features not usually found on other J34C’s and similar boats. Check out the Full description and 2019 & 2020 Retrofit details. Feel free to call for more detailed information.

Owners Description

The J/34c is a unique, safe, fast cruising sailboat designed by Rod Johnstone and built by Tillotson Pearson. High stability is achieved due to a lightweight, strong balsa-cored hull and deck, combined with a 4500 lb. UFO keel (wing/bulb).  It’s an ideal boat for a couple or a small family. The ease of handling is unmatched. With a foretriangle and main of equal areas, sail handling is a snap. JBoats are designed to sail on the main alone especially in breezy conditions. All reefing (2 reefs) is done at the cockpit. With a very long waterline to optimize speed, combined with a generous sail plan, the J/34c is an exceptional performer in all conditions from light air to more challenging conditions.

The high level of stability enables full sail to be deployed well beyond where lesser boats have already reefed. End-boom mainsail sheeting combined with a helm mounted traveler make sail trim changes fast and easy. The dual-ended mainsheet is controlled by mainsheet winches at the helm. The boat can be tacked easily by the helmsman and the primary winches are close to the helm.

By using an asymmetrical spinnaker in lighter conditions, sailing can continue when others are motoring. Finger tip control is always available and the large rudder gives precise control especially in downwind sailing with following waves. All of these features make single-handed sailing possible. A comfortable interior with good ventilation make the J34/c a completely satisfying experience. The J/34c is one of the best, high quality small fast cruisers. Whether you are staying inshore or planning an offshore passage the J/34c is up to the task. More sailing, more speed, more fun!

Brokers Comments

Every once in a while a boat will come on the market that is an outstanding value. Whistle Jacket is one of those boats. Whistle Jacket is READY TO GO!

Is there something that she needs? Yes. If you want to race the boat competitively, the sails would need to be upgraded, Current inventory are cruising sails. Still more than adequate for cruising and an occasional long distance race. In 2019 Whistle Jacket took home first place in the coveted Choptank Cup.

Quick Walk Through

Whistle Jacket is one of the few J/34C built by J/Boats to satisfy the demand for a Performance oriented boat that is not a “stripped down” race boat with minimal accommodations below. A full galley with storage, refrigeration, comfortable bunks, and a head with a little more room for privacy and taking a decent shower. Walking the deck, you'll see at the bow a new Rocna 20 anchor along with a new Quick DP2 Windlass (with Remote Control and counter) and deck washdown system, The Rocna Anchor has a Kong Swivel, 125' of 5/16” chain rode & 8 Plaited nylon. Extended bow sprit with solid stainless Bow pulpit and roller furling genoa. One single bow cleat and lifelines are in good condition. An open deck with no gel coat crazing or other signs of a soft deck. A large forward Hatch and aluminum toe rail designed to easily attach turning blocks or other equipment. The hatch on top of the cabin forward of the mast has a solar powered fan forcing air circulation below.  The mast is a 2 spreader mast with Rod Rigging and has a fold down step to help connect the halyard to the head of the mainsail complete with Lazy Jacks and boom vang. Virtually all lines are led back to the cockpit to minimize the work that needs to be done at the mast allowing a couple or single handed sailing. In the cockpit, the new B&G Chart Plotter screen is mounted on the pedestal at the helm and Triton 2 multi displays are also mounted on the bulkhead with many programable display options. An extra large cockpit locker on the port side holds loads of gear and equipment including the refrigeration cooling system. A dodger with covers for the eisenglass and bimini for shade and protection from the rain. Adjustable backstay, and a man overboard recovery system is mounted on the pushpit. The Propane locker is all the way aft on the Starboard side holds 2 tanks and the rudder post is underneath the helm seat for easy access if you need the emergency tiller. Going below, the galley is on the port side with a comfortable port side seating and dining table just forward leading to the doorway to the head. A separate doorway on the starboard side leads to the forward cabin with closets, drawers and storage shelves. Coming back into the main cabin a TV is mounted on the bulkhead over the full length starboard bunk/couch/seating which becomes the aft facing Nav Station with electric panel, chart table, and storage areas are ideal for setting up the iPad to monitor the B&G Systems. Finally on starboard aft of the Nav Station is a large berth with a side port into the cockpit for ventilation, light and possible communication with the helmsman. Special Feature:  The forward port lights are translucent which allow maximum light in but assure privacy as well.

Fully handcrafted teak is used throughout with a teak and holly sole over marine plywood. Teak trim covers the ceiling panel gaps and solid teak trim is used throughout. Hull ceilings are teak including the lockers in the saloon. There are berths for 6: 2 forward, 2 on port and starboard settees, and 2 in the aft quarter berth.

There is a nav station/desk on starboard with seating on the end of the settee. The desktop can be used to view chart books or folded US standard charts. Generous desk storage is below. An open shelf is above. A centerline solid teak table folds out to seat 4, framed by straight settees, port and starboard. The main bulkhead is GRP with teak veneer facing. A 12V fan is on the starboard bulkhead facing aft. Massive SS chain plates are bolted to the main fiberglass bulkhead. The TV is mounted on starboard with a swing out mount. The novel feature of JBoats is there is no mast in the salon due to the large mainsail. This is a unique feature maximizing space and functionality. Dual access to the forward head compartment is provided from the salon and the forward cabin.

The galley is located port side aft at the base of the companionway. A large refrigerator compartment is complemented by a dual burner Force 10 propane stove with a pot storage area under the stove. Propane flow is controlled from a solenoid activated from the DC panel. Two cabinets above with sliding doors provide easy access to common cooking needs. A 12V fan in the galley keeps the cook cool.

The top step of the companionway lifts to reveal generous dish and utensil storage. The underside of the compartment is exposed to engine heat to provide drying when wet dishes are stored. A single deep sink with hot/cold water faucet handles clean up. Seagull filtered water is dispensed through a separate faucet. An opening port provides additional ventilation to the galley area

Forward Stateroom

The owner's stateroom features a large v-berth 80” across with generous foot room forward. There is a 2 drawer bureau with a cabinet above. Additional storage is provided by a drawer and fold down door below on port and starboard. A v-berth insert allows access to the storage below the berth. A centerline storage cabinet is accessed via a fold up door. At the forward end of the berth double doors give access to storage and the holding tank below. An open storage shelf is provided on each side of the cabin. Four inch berth cushions are topped with a 3 inch memory foam addition. There is standing room in the cabin for dressing and an ensuite access door to the head

Aft Quarter Berth

The aft quarter berth provides a double berth. A 12V fan provides cooling along with an opening port. A fold down door at the aft end of the berth provides access to more storage. An open shelf above the berth gives additional storage for small items. A removable panel provides access to the engine compartment for servicing the engine water intake thru hull and the primary engine strainer.
