Alma Af Karmøy was built as a school project in Karmøy, Norway begun in 2000 and completed in 2012. She has been used as a school ship by the Municipality of Karmøy, and is well known throughout the county.
The hardangerjakt "Anna of Sand" from 1854 has been an inspiration for the construction.
StandardVery solid craft by boat builder Harald Sørensen who has built the boat with the help of students at Karmøy and the municipality.
The hull is built in 2 '' pine skin on 6 x 6 '' laminated pine rafters and oak in rallies. Spacing distance 45 cm from center to center. Deck beams in laminated 6x6 '' pine. On the deck beams there is a panel with the phase down for a nice ceiling under the deck. Then Divinycell is added as spacer material and then veneer. This is baked into epoxy and on top is added Kebony. Ruffles and drops are produced in a similar way but with oak on sides and kebony on top. Very delicious all together.
She is rigged as Hardangerjakt with fanciful details not usually seen on boats today.
Floor plan:The deck is large and open and invites to sailing and outdoor activities. Steering position fully aft with necessary instrumentation. Davits in oak for dingy in stern.
Decline to galley on starboard side, the galley contains gas stove, fridge, sink etc as well as bench and cupboard space. Furthermore, a staircase leads down to a cozy lounge with tables and benches, as well as six (6) bunks to the tables. In front of the lounge are two bathrooms with showers, one on each side. At the very bow there are four (4) bunks.
From the galley there are stairs / leads back down to the captain's cabin with double bed + a single bed. The engine room is under the floor in the galley with easy access.
Engine & Equipment:The engine room is located under the floor in the galley and has a powerful Volvo Penta TAMD 74 engine that delivers 210 hp at 1800 RPM. Closed cooling system with outside cooling loop and dry exhaust. Hydraulic steering associated with steering machine and autopilot. Well equipped with radar, chart plotter, sonar, autopilot, wind meter etc. The sails are from 2013 and are in good quality and condition. Kabola central boiler that provides heat to radiators throughout the boat. Hot water heater of 110 liters. Zodiac tender with 9.9 / 15 hp engine. 2 x life rafts. Tank capacities: 1000 + 500 liters of water, 2 x 1500 liters of diesel and 500 liters of septic.
Seaworthiness:With Alma of Karmøy you can sail wherever the wind brings you. The boat feels stable and safe under all conditions the owner has used it. The vessel has a length of 15.9 meters and a width of 5.36 meters. The main mast has a height of about 20 meters above the waterline. Displacement approx. 45 tons, of which 11 tons are in the keel.
