About this Westerly Fulmar 32

English

Lady B is a very fine example of the hugely popular Westerly Fulmer 32. She has been well maintained over the years both above and below decks and has unfortunately come onto the market due to ill health. With great sailing characteristics, a go anywhere attitude and a spacious interior, Lady B would be well suited to anyone looking to enjoy off shore cruising in comfort whilst also having the option to dry out thanks to her bilge keels.

The boat will be available to collect once Covid restrictions allow the owner to clear his possessions.

Construction

The hull and deck are constructed of hand laid, chopped strand mat and balsa creating a wood sandwich, where appropriate, with woven fibres incorporated at stress points. . The deck, hull, and teak rubbing strake, are through bolted with stainless fastenings. The keels are cast iron and fitted to the hull by stainless steel threaded studs with stainless backing plates inside the hull. The mast is deck stepped on the main bulkhead and stainless steel shroud plates are through-bolted on to fibreglass webs matted to the hull.

In 2017 Lady B's hull (below the waterline) was sandblasted, completely stripping all antifoul. She was then coated in 5 layer's of epoxy treatment (Gelshield) and re-antifouled.

The boat has been lifted out annually for antifoul and a hull polish during the current ownership.

Engines and Mechanicals

Lady B is powered by a Bukh DV20 which is serviced annually and had a major service in  2017 which included replacing all the cooling system hoses. This powers a 2019 Darglow Featherstream prop for added performance. She saw a complete new exhaust in 2015.

She is fitted with two 12V batteries charged via the engine and separate shore power battery charger.

Sails and Rigging

Lady B has an impressive sail inventory, comprising of the following:

  • 2020 Triradial Genoa by Goacher Sails. Condition - as new
  • 2016 Fully battened Main with Lazy Bag by One Sails. Condition - very good
  • 2005 Genoa recently valeted
  • Asymmetric Spinnaker

2016 saw her standing rigging replaced and a complete overhaul of her furling gear. The braided running rigging has also been replaced in the recent years. The Mainsail has 2 reefs with a deep second reef for heavy weather conditions. Reefing lines are led back to the cockpit for safety.

Accommodation and layout

The layout provides six to seven berths with a cosy double berth in the port quarter, aft of the navigation area, saloon with single and convertible double berth and twin / double berth in the forecabin. She has proven very comfortable on longer trips with a crew of 4. Quality hardwoods and marine ply are used in the cabin construction with cream coloured soft head panels and an attractive choice of soft furnishings. In the forward cabin there are two full length berths with lockers under and shelves above, running along the sides of the hull. The forward cabin is separated from the saloon by a door. There are two separate hanging lockers. There is also a separate marine WC (Lavac system) and hand basin. The saloon is laid out in the classic cruising style. There are settee berths each side of the saloon table with a galley aft to starboard and the navigator's seat and chart table aft to port. There is plenty of stowage space in the lockers under the bunks and under the open shelves behind the seat backs. The saloon table has two hinged leaves running fore and aft and with these raised there is ample room for seven to eight people in comfort. The fiddled centre section has bottle stowage beneath the table top. The seat backs of the settee berths can be lifted out and used as lee boards, when at sea. Alternatively the port settee can be converted quickly and easily to a double berth with the saloon table remaining in position. The whole interior of Fulmar gives an immediate feeling of warmth and light.

The galley has been built in such a way that it is comfortable to use both at sea and while in port. The galley has plenty of storage. The cooker has been replaced within the last 10 years and the cool box has now been converted to a fully functioning fridge.
