About this Hallberg-Rassy 42

This Hallberg Rassy 42 is an original (Rassy/Enderlein), sloop rigged, version of the popular GRP long-distance cruising HR42 marque and has successfully completed two circumnavigations. The second of these, with the current owners, was mostly two-handed and covered over 60,000 nautical miles. She is for sale with much regret as the owners now feel that they have reached a stage in their  lives when long-distance cruising is behind them. 'Sea Bunny' is well equipped for ocean cruising but is equally at home in local waters.

Construction

GRP moulded hull and deck with encapsulated iron ballast in long fin keel
Rudder supported by 3/4 depth skeg.
Sacrificial shoe fitted to lower part of keel and wire from keel to skeg.
Teak covering on deck replaced 2009 (Thailand).
All hatches understood to have been replaced 1997 (Trinidad)
Topsides repainted 2016 in Trinidad (except blue stripe - 2012 in Thailand)
Coppercoat antifoul system applied 2012 (Thailand) , touched up 2016 (Trinidad).
General refits undertaken in 1997 (by previous owner), 2001 (UK), 2009 and 2012 (Thailand) and 2016 (Trinidad).

Deck Equipment

Lofrans electric anchor windlass (2008) with veer and haul foot controls. Motor replaced

Pressurised anchor/deck wash.
45lb CQR anchor mounted in bow roller, with 60 m 10 mm chain in anchor well. Nylon snubber.
Large Danforth anchor.
60 m additional 10 mm chain, stored in bilge
60 m 18mm nylon octoplait anchor warp
Self steering
Aries demountable wind vane.NB: this unit has not been fully tested with the aft gantry in place.

LPG regulator 2016
1 x aluminium 5kg LPG bottles (NZ 2003, tested South Africa 2016) with new US POL valves 2016 (2nd similar available free if required). Difficult to fill in UK
2 “pigtails” with US POL male fittings, 1 “pigtail” with UK POL fitting
At present the LPG system is configured to use a 6 kg Calor propane tank with one of the aluminium tanks connected to the changeover system as spare.

with stainless steel chain to secure gap.
Twin stainless steel guardrail wires with opening  gate sections.
Mounting for liferaft recessed into alt rails on port side.
2 teak pads on aft rails for outboard engine storage.

Machinery

Propulsion:
Volvo Penta MD22P 44kW (57hp) (2001).
ZF-Hurth ZF25MA gearbox with 8 degree down angle shaft drive (November 2008)
Brunton Autoprop H6 self pitching propeller rebladed 2006 on fitting new gearbox. Factory service 2019.
Rope cutter and shaft anode
Cutlass bearing replaced 2019.
Spare fixed blade propeller carried as spare.

Fuel Capacity:
350 litres across two tanks

Batteries:
Two independent 12v battery banks.
Engine start AGM battery of 90 A-Hrs (2014)
Domestic battery bank of 6 x 95 -Hrs (2015) Trojan gel batteries (total 570 Ah).
Linklite battery condition monitor (2011).
All batteries are installed under aft cabin bunks with substantial hold-downs.
Engine battery is charged by dedicated engine-mounted 60 A alternator.
Domestic bank is charged by Balmar 160A engine driven alternator (2010) through Balmar MC-614 intelligent regulator;

Electrical System:
Victron 2000VA/80A, (2012) for charging domestic battery (up to 80 A depending on battery state) and supplying 240V AC from battery (up to 2 kVA) when shore power is not available.
30A AC pass-through when connected to shore power.
Inverter will supplement shore power if demand exceeds a limit set on the control unit.
220/240 V shore power circuit with galvanic isolation, earth leakage and overload protection.
AC sockets throughout boat, mostly universal type accepting UK, continental, US and Australia/NZ plugs.
12V DC sockets in galley and navigation area.
At present not equipped wit a generator however, there is space and a platform for one in the engine compartment..Service access to genset area, calorifier and starboard side of engine through removable section of cockpit locker floor.

Alternative 'green' Power Sources:
2 x Silentwind (2012 & 2015) wind generators. Control boxes mounted in aft heads
2 x 135W Kyocera solar panels 2009. MPPT controller for maximum efficiency.

Trysail, sets on own track on mast. Believed original – never used by present owners.
Hoods triradial spinnaker with snuffer 2001, little used.
Cruising chute with snuffer. Believed original, little used by present owners.
Twin headsail rig system, sets on twin groove foil using separate halyard block on top swivel to allow luff of both sails to be independently tensioned.

No 1 jib. Believed original. Only used by present owners as part of twin-headsail running rig.

Old Autohelm wired via changeover switch for use with existing linear drive in case of main Autohelm system failure. Note that the display on the control head is deteriorated but control functions are believed to be functional.

Accommodation

Overall:
Seven berths in two cabins plus saloon.The inside of the hull moulding is lined with varnished mahogany slats to create an air barrier between the accommodation and the GRP. This gives excellent ventilation to all parts of the boat and helps to prevent the smells and mould caused by damp. Locker fronts are louvered, bunk boards are drilled.
Mikunu warm air system ducted to cabins and heads, (ducting renewed 2014). Main unit serviced by UK agent 2018.
8000 BTU/hr built-in air conditioner to main cabin 2009 (usable when on shore power). Sea water cooled.
Engine compartment extractor fan
Soft furnishings are upholstered in Warwick Microsuede deluxe fabric 2010.
Head linings throughout relined 2009.
Flooring revarnished 2012 and lock-downs fitted
Portlights rubber seals replaced 2016

The main DC switch panel is mounted in this area.
Access to the engine compartment is to starboard of the passage.
