About this Pearson 424

P E A R S O N   4 2 4   K E T C HP r o j e c t   B o a tP r i c e   r e d u c e d . . .   B r i n g   O f f e r s !The Pearson 424 was conceived and designed by Bill Shaw to serve as a capable coastal cruiser that could be easily handled by a couple in all conditions.  These attributes combined with Pearson‘s legendary bullet proof construction have made the P424 a sought after budget blue water cruising platform, providing safety, comfort, and speed. The sea kindly solid glass hull with a skeg hung rudder and shoal draft provide the appropriate compromise between performance and protection for a cruising boat that is destined for off the grid reef exploration in the Bahamas and beyond.  The Pearson 424 features a unique tri-cabin arrangement.  A spacious aft owners’ stateroom/nav station offers full standing headroom and direct access to the adjacent aft cockpit through the main companionway. A second companionway located amidships accesses the salon/galley area. This dual companionway arrangement is still as innovative and practical as when it was when introduced on the Pearson 424.  This revolutionary layout creates an abundace of light and ventilation in addition to good separation between the forward and aft cabins. Both cabins feature full standing headroom, eliminating the claustrophobia of many designs of this era. This singular design combines many of the advantages of an aft cockpit layout with those of a center cockpit aft cabin arrangement... all in the same boat!  A spacious and sensible U-shaped galley is adjacent to a traditionally configured salon with a centerline dropleaf table and port and starboard settes which convert to spacious single berths for additional guests. A huge private forward stateroom features a king width v-berth, extensive storage and an en-suite sink. A centrally located single head compartment with a huge, truly workableable shower stall provides a practical low maintainace alternative to multiple, smaller head compartments.  The huge cockpit is safe for offshore work, but still provides more comfortable exterior space than than many of today’s dual helm arrangements.  Three deep cockpit lockers provide all the storage space necessary for full time long distance cruising. This Pearson 424 is an incomplete restoration project.  Most of the interior teak has been removed and professionally refinished and awaits reinstallation, however the bulkheads and teak and holly sole are still in need of attention.  The cored decks are solid and dry.  The solid glass hull below the waterline was peeled and dried and awaits epoxy and and anti fouling.  The Westerbeke W-58 diesel ran well when the boat was laid up over a decade ago but it’s serviceability now must be considered unknown.  Fortunately this boat can be acquired at a price which makes a rebuild or even repower economically feasible.  This vessel will convey with various uninstalled gear including all of the wire, mechanical terminals, and turnbuckles necessary to replace the standing rigging.
If you are looking for a boat that is ready to sail you will need to look elsewhere.  However, if you have been searching for a worthy restoration project and you have the time and skills necessary, this Pearson 424 deserves a look.  The owner wants this vessel sold asap.  The price is negotiable and she will be sold to the highest bidder.
